Ringworld. Now that's something I'd pay good money to see on the big screen.
Ironically they asked Niven to write a Halo novelisation, But he declined stating, "I can't jump into a fully programmed universe, and write anything good. It works better if I've been living in that universe."

Microsoft didn't exactly ask Larry's permission to use the "Ringworld" concept for the game, but Larry has said that he "doesn't own the copyright on big rings" and who wants to spend years in a courtroom fighting it out with Microsoft? - Larry for one certainly doesn't.

Eric Max Francis has pointed out that the Ring more closely resembles an Iain M. Banks' Orbital from his Culture series of novels than an actual "Ringworld" around a star.

This is from UWE BOLL's Website:

There are some rumours that Uwe Boll will direct HALO. But this is not the truth. Uwe Boll will not direct HALO.

but PETER JACKSON will...

regarding UWE BOLL:
I'm afraid to say, this is not true. My name is Marty O'Donnell and I'm the Audio Director over at Bungie Studios (the video-game producers). You'll be pleased to know that we have accepted a Director by the name of Peter Jackson in regards to the Halo Movie project (his credits include the Oscar-winning 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy and the soon-to-be-released 'King Kong').

I.M.D.B will be updated shortly to correcti this error, and later this week we will release a statement over at our website (http://www.bungie.net) to help clarify this matter further.

Sorry to dampen your spirits, but I felt strongly that this needed to be contained before it became a silly rumour. We were looking for someone with the desire, discipline and dedication that our film requires, and although Uwe Boll was a candidate on our list of possible-Directors, his schedule proved to be hectic and so he had to pull out.

I hope this clears everything up for everybody.
With Regards,
Martin O'Donnell.

I'll believe it when I see it. Sounds like tons of Fan Speculation right now. I hope the Jackson thing is true, but it sounds like a fake posting on that message board. Hopefully i'm wrong.

Why would their 'Wish List' of directors go in THIS order

1. Uwe Boll (whoops, he's too busy, better go with our #2 plan)
2. Peter Jackson (thank god he's not busy)

I wouldn't worry much...I doubt either Boll or Jackson is in consideration. Boll is obviously just not worthy of the job (nor does he work for studios) and Jackson is just...out of their league.

That is B.S. if I ever heard it. My guess is that PJ will have a "conflict" of some sort and then Mr. Boll will be readily available!

Review of the Halo script.

This script rocks man. The script is so damn good and entertaining that I read it more than once. A tour de force. The clowns at the other studios who passed on this are gonna lose their jobs when this movie comes out and opens huge. Whoever at the other studios thought that this script wasn’t up to snuff can kiss my ass. Idiots. You think Peter Jackson is going to get involved with a property if the script royally sucked?! I think not.

Halo is a balls to the wall unapologetic, ruthlessly ultra-violent war movie – and it’s cool as hell, man. How violent is it? It’s the Saving Private Ryan of video game movies. We got headshots, bodies being cut in half by the swords of the Stealth Elite. We see what kind of damage plasma grenades can do and yes we get to see the horror of flood infection vessels – heads snapping back and torsos exploding.

Wow...am I not excited. Del Toro's not a bad director, certainly he has visual chops, but his English language work has left me feeling cold. Mimic, Blade, and Hellboy (especially Hellboy), all take me from A to B in the most direct (uninteresting) manner.

It's the worst kind of frustration, having a bad-ass concept, and telling the least compelling version of it.

Honestly, I had zero in interest in Halo until I read that Del Toro might be signing on. He's a great visualist so it will be interesting to see what he could cook up with WETA.
