Jim Jarmusch's Dead Man - Yay or Nay?

So, my brother and I watched this film last night. I for the second time, he for the first. I enjoyed it as much as I had the first time. My brother on the other hand hated it. It's definitely not for everyone as the film comes off pretty abstract. Did you like the film? Comments...good or bad are welcome.

I really like this movie, but it can be very esoteric. I've had the same experience; watching it with a group and it being split at the end. The photography and music alone would make this a great movie.

Definitely a yay. Best movie of 1996, IMO. I may be slightly biased though.

Yay. One of my all-time favorites. I agree that it is pretty out there and not for everyone, but I love it's odd take on the genre - it's rich with meaning, and it's ultimately quite moving.

something i only end up watching ever few years....but well worth it every time. It's a brilliant film, and imho, the point where Johnny Depp began to earn his rep as one of the best of his generation.

I think it's Jarmusch's masterpiece, and that's saying one helluva lot.

A very moderate "yay" here, and more for Depp's performance than the movie itself.

I big Yay! for me. Some have discribed the movie as a poetic dream. I also love the soundtrack by Neil Young.

Yay. My only complaint was that it felt a little slow and boring at times. I enjoyed the deleted scenes on the DVD as well.

I picked this up last night for 11 bucks. Worth a shot at that price.

The naysayers don't appear to be too vocal...

I watched it last night. This is only the second Jurmusch film I've seen and it has much the same feel as Ghost Dog despite being a very different genre. Though I still prefer Ghost Dog, there was plenty to like about Dead Man.

I wouldn't say it's the best film I've seen this week, but it's worth the $11 I spent on it and will probably see at least a few more spins in my player.

I vote "yay"
