"Outlawed" DVD?
|
Hehe, not really outlawed just out-of-print. It goes for mucho deniro on the secondary market. I say outlawed only because the I thought the footage was used without permission. Though I may be mistaken.
|
Outlawed could be somewhat near the truth. The way I heard it is that Geffen got his panties in a bunch when he found out that the darker ending was included. So much so, he demanded it be recalled..
|
I wish Geffen would get his panties out of a wad and release a new wave of DVDs with this ending on it. In fact, put it back in the film!

is the streaming video in color or B&W, cause the furor over the initial inclusion of the "original ending" on the DVD was the fact that there was a color version of it, but the DVD producers threw the B&W copy on without real permission.

I had never even heard of that ending before. After seeing it, why on earth would they film something so fantastic and then cut it? It fit with the overall tone of the film and was absolutely great.
Thank you so very much for that link, Samuel. |
i actually had one in my hand the day it was released.
not a fan of the film so i didnt buy it. was able to pick one up later for about $40 whats it go for on ebay these days? |

Thank you so very much for that link, Samuel. You have to remember is that the original musical ends with Seymore and Audrey dying. However, after DISASTEROUS test screenings (because the general movie going public are morons), Mr. Geffen told Oz and company to scrap the ending (which they spent over $5 million on alone) and reshoot something upbeat and happier. While I do love the movie, the original ending would've made it greater. |
About $100 or so.
|
Thanks for posting that. "Little Shop" is my favorite musical of all time, and I've always wanted to see that footage in its entirety. Considering how much I love the stage version, the 2nd movie, while demonstrating an awesome example of puppetry and using a stellar cast, has always felt cheap in the end. I've vocally directed the stage version and the show works so much better with the original ending. Seymour and Audrey aren't supposed to live happily ever after.
They should fix up the ending, add a branching version off the original and rerelease it. Fans would buy it in droves...I know I would be the first in line. |
W3rd.
I guess I don't have to plunk down $100 to see this footage now. I've gotten close a couple of times. ;) L8r |
Nice to finally see the ending. While I see why it might have been too dark and tragic, they should have retained it just on the basis of how much money they dropped on the FX.
Let me say that the puppet work accomplished with those plants was a major breakthrough and it is really nice to see a movie with creatures actually on the scene as opposed to CGI ones as they would most likely use today. |
Is there suppose to be sound of this?

Got it working. That was indeed a good ending.

Holy crap, I've been wanting to see this ending for a long time! Thanks for posting this!!
EDIT: Just watched it and I have to say that I did like it better than the happy ending they replaced it with. Sure, it's sad... but if you think about it, the happy ending in the final version of the movie wasn't really happy at all, judging from the final shot. |

In the re-release frenzy following the STAR WARS films, Geffen thought a new release of HORRORS with the dark ending would bring in the green. It's a shame nothing ever came from that. I think there's still bad blood over this issue. |
The complete STORY from our own DVD Savant.

Wow, what an improved ending! The released ending was the only thing I didn't like about the movie - now I know a better ending exists.
