The Star Wars holiday Special Contest at DavisDVD

saw this...thought...huh...

from davis dvd

The Stars Wars Holiday Special

Enter for your chance to win a copy of The Star Wars Holiday Special courtesy of davisdvd and Star Wars fanatics everywhere.

Twenty minutes of Wookie thespianism (who need subtitles, anyway). Chewie's dad gets pornography for Life Day. Bea Arthur sings! Harvey Korman mugs! The Jefferson Starship blows! Art Carney needed to pay some bills. And Mark Hamill has been replaced by Cathy Rigby.

On the plus side, the DVD will include 56 vintage Kenner commercials (COOL!) and an episode of "The Muppet Show" featuring Mark Hamill, C3PO, R2-D2 and Chewbacca.

To win, simply email us with your name and mailing address. And you thought the "Star Wars" theme was only an instrumental...

The Rules:

1. Your full name and mailing address must be included with your email entry. davisdvd.com respects the privacy of our readers and absolutely NO information submitted in this contest will be given, copied or sold to any third parties. Word to your mother.

2. Only one (1) entry per person, per prize. More than that and you're not going to win.

3. Contests are open to readers is the U.S. and Canada. Word to your mother, eh?

4. Contests end promptly within one week of their initial announcement. Winners will be notified by email confirmation prior to prizes being shipped. Word to your mail carrier.

5. Void where prohibited, no purchase necessary, blah blah blah.

Mopower 05-31-05 11:06 PM

Shit. I'll send you my copy of the same thing for shipping and a blank disc. No entry required. Just don't get mad at me when you find out you wasted a piece of your life watching it.

Superboy 05-31-05 11:27 PM

I got my copy due to the torrent that is bit. It was almost as bad as the Fantastic Four movie. Almost.

Class316 05-31-05 11:29 PM

I've got a copy that only has the Holiday Special no extras of any sort. I wonder if it's better quality than those that come with the Muppet show and stuff.

Also, the one I have has the original commercials intact.

Cameron 06-01-05 12:14 AM

I imagine that most people have it one way or another...just found it odd that a site like davis would be advertising it as a giveaway...seeing as it is black market only...

Joe Molotov 06-01-05 12:32 AM

Holiday Special is fun to have just so you can show it off to friends who have never heard of it. It works best if slip into casual conversation, like "Revenge of the Sith was the best of all 7 Star Wars movies!" and then when they're like "WTF?" you bust out Holiday Special and everyone has a good laugh about it. If you really want to blow their minds though, show them Turkish Star Wars. ;)

Michael Corvin 06-01-05 07:23 AM

I would love to see those Kenner commercials.

Let me know if your willing to sell it

I also have this from the torrential source. I use it on movie nights to clear out the guests who don't want to go home after the feature.

I'm guessing if Lucasfilm gets word of this, they'll be paying a little visit to DavisDVD.com with a nice little lawsuit. :)

Anyone want to speed up the process by notifying Lucasfilm?

Why? Because Lucas isn't making money off it?

Class316 06-01-05 11:31 AM

plus DavisDVD isn't making money off of it.

Filmmaker 06-01-05 11:44 AM

Yeah, I paid through the nose for a bootleg videocassette of it several years back at a STAR TREK convention, only to have watched it one single solitary time...it's really that bad, folks...

It's a movie made by Turkish people that rips off footage from Star Wars (not to mention music from Indiana Jones, Battlestar Galactica, etc.). Most of the stolen footage is used in the opening scene, where our brave Turkish starfighters stand in front of TV screens showing footage of the Battle of Yavin. I'm not kidding, that's really what they did. Also, the Death Star and Alderaan blow up like 3 times each during the unintelligeable introduction, that involves aliens trying to attack Earth but being stopped by Earth's brain shield that's made out of actual brains. The aliens can't penetrate it because they don't have brains, and so they need to capture a human and study it's brain, which is where our heroes come into play when they crash land on the planet of Ancient Egypt, apparently, and are pursued by Turkish Darth Vader's forces. It only gets worse from there.

And I didn't even tell you about the history lesson that tells how the followers of the Koran were persecuted by Turkish Darth Vader, and how they were rescued and taken to an underground sanctuary by Jesus Christ!

Doesn't make any difference, it's still in violation of copyright. Lucasfilm OWNS the rights to the show and has not authorized distribution of it in any form.

But in order to claim ownership, wouldn't they have to first recognize it's existance? ;)
