New IMDB policy?

I'm not quite sure if this is the right place, but I figure it's close enough to being movie related that it'll fit in here. Visiting the IMDB today, I tried to view some of the posts under a film's page (to look for updates as far as plot and whatnot go). Upon doing so, I was prompted to register at the IMDB if I wanted to view any more than the 5 posts that show up on the front page. Does anybody know if this is temporary, or not? I mean, I'll eventually register if it's not, but I'm just wondering if I need to go to the trouble (and risk getting the occassional spam mail).

Yeah it seems that you have to register now to view the entire message board. I've been registered for years so I could post on them. It just seems to be more inconvienent than anything, having to log in to view the boards.

Yeah, I mainly use it as a source for information about upcoming releases...though from time to time it's good to see the opinions of various people when it comes to controversial or open-ended films. I guess I'll go ahead and register a fake email account so I can sign up for the boards. Kind of a pain, though.

Yeah internet sites are turning to shit more and more each day. Look whats happening to thedigitalbits. Just today I couldnt read the damn news there because some god damn stupid add it all over the page and it wouldnt go away...nor was there an option to do so....

That sucks. Oh well.

Perhaps it's telling you that reading the IMDb boards simply isn't worth the trouble?

Now and then, I'll find good information, but mostly it's silly arguing. Even The Hunt For Red October message board has a couple of fellas arguing over submarine capabilities...

The only time I've actually found those board useful is when I'm searching for info on lesser known actor, actresses, or series.

I suppose its not a big hassle to sign up, but why make us go through that junk?

That's so true.I read is mostly to laugh at the people yelling at each other about off topic things,or some twelve year old every thread asking if there's nudity in the movie. rotfl

It's entertaining to read through the petty debates from time to time, but I do find the boards to be a useful tool (typically in the case of a movie that hasn't yet been released, or something to of the sort...though sometimes it's good to read through peoples' interpretations of vague endings, plot holes, and the such). For the most part, I find that it's easy enough to skim along past the bullshit posts and find what I'm looking for.

Yeah, I've already signed up. I just don't see the point. I try to keep from registering on a large number of sites, and it's a pain when something like this pops up for no logical reason. Ah well, what can you do...

I signed up a couple years ago so I have no idea about the message board thingie. Some of them are hilarious though. I remember there's someone claiming to be a "real-life modern samurai" in Seven Samurai board claiming the movie is inaccurate about samurai life.
