I agree and it doesn't help that the Frank Oz' voice for TESB's Yoda sounds too much like Fozzie the Bear, In the Episode I-III - Yoda's voice sound less so.

I liked the puppet in 5 and 6. CG Yoda was incredible in 2 & 3 (who hadn't dreamed about Yoda battling before?)

Yoda in 1 was awful though.

I don't know. Muppet Yoda is 5-6 just feels much more realistic. But you can do so much more with a CGI Yoda.

puppet Yoda for me. They could still have him fight, but he wouldn't be able to do a flip each time he swing his light saber.

I saw Empire many times in the theate when it came out and thoght Yoda looked "real" (ie not a puppet) in those episodes. Yoday in Ep 1 was horrible, one thing I really enjoyed about Yoda in Ep 3 was that Yoda had some really great emotional expressions mainly:

Spoiler:

When the clones turned against the Jedi, after the fight with Palpatine talking about going into exile, and looking at the security tapes in the Jedi Temple with Obi-Wan.

I thought that was really well done. I would not suggest changing Yoda in Eps V and VI, but I would be in favor of CGI-ing him in Episode I.

Puppet...looks more real in V and VI than a CG cartoon character.

DVDHO 05-26-05 05:09 PM

Both,it's perfect the way it's set up as is,you know you cant have a puppet running around kicking ass and the same time make it look real.

Rogue588 05-27-05 03:21 AM

'ol school puppet.

puppet yoda is way better for the close ups of his face
and a 2005 puppet could be even better than a 1980s puppet

Yeah, look what we got in TPM, a better puppet Yoda....................that looks awful.

I like puppet Yoda, but he does look like a rubbber puppet with someone's hand stuck up it's ass. He doesn't look close to real, and the CG Yoda in ROTS looks more real. But don't change the original puppet Yoda. He felt real because of his performance and the way Luke reacted to him.

How in the world could a puppet Yoda fight? Just the image of that makes me laugh

i'll take both...they both worked well...

The puppet Yoda was very well done, but CG Yoda can do all those things, and much more. He's more expressive, he's mobile, we can do full body shots. Puppet Yoda was very well done, but CG Yoda can do all of that and so much more.

As for which one is more convincing, both have their faults but the stiffness of puppets is more distracting then the sheen of CG imo. I can suspend my disbelief with either one but CG Yoda just means a character that can be used in any way...puppet Yoda is far more limiting to the filmmakers.

CGI for distant shots (lightsaber duels, walking a corridor on Bail Organa's ship, etc.), puppet for close-ups (there's no fucking reason in the world for Lucas to have pissed away thousands of $$$ on fake-ass looking shots where the puppet worked perfectly well before)...
