For Which Actor or Director are you a Total COMPLETIST for ?

You have to have absolutely everything done by that person, however bad and all versions available etc

I'm definitely a Bruce Lee completist, have every movie of course, imported versions and every doco i can find.

Also a bit of a Lucio Fulci completist

RyoHazuki 05-25-05 05:15 AM

Al Franken.

I used to own one of his children until the little bastard escaped.

nemein 05-25-05 05:20 AM

None, the ones I come the closest too are Jackie Chan, and Akira Kurosawa but even both of them have movies I won't bother w/ because I don't find them that interesting or they are just plain bad.

Original Desmond 05-25-05 05:38 AM

I love early Jackie movies like Spiritual Kung Fu and Fantasy Mission Force

They are available so cheap, just a buck or two each

nemein 05-25-05 05:44 AM

Actually Fantasy Mission Force and Master of Disaster are two of the ones that comes to mind as ones I've avoided or had and gave away, Battle Creek Brawl and Twinkle Twinkle Lucky Stars are two others that immediately come to mind. W/ over 50 DVDs of his in my collection (inluding several for which I have the R0 and R1 or R1 and R2 [HongKong Legends] versions) he's certainly the actor I've come closest to being "complete" on. For Akira the only one I can think of off hand that I didn't really care for (that I've seen so far ;)) is the Russian one... I think I still may own it, but I believe it's on my "hit list" of things to give away at some point.

ytrez 05-25-05 06:58 AM

I've got a ton of Jackie Chan flicks, almost all of them. I have all the Zatoichi films too. I guess I'm a bit of a completist when it comes to Kurt Russell, Robert De Niro, John Carpenter & Martin Scorcese. Now that I think about it, I have most of Tom Cruise's movies.

Fincher Fan 05-25-05 07:16 AM

David Fincher. Luckily he's only made five movies. Unfortunately, one of them is Alien 3.

honking 05-25-05 07:18 AM

I am a completist for David Lynch and Luis Bunuel. Every film, no matter where or what, I must have!

Jaymole 05-25-05 07:25 AM

There are many Directors who I would want to own everything they've done. Just to name a few: Kubrick, Scorsese, Bresson, Bunuel, The Dardennes and Mike Leigh.

I don't think there are any actors who I would want every film they were in although I will sometimes pick up mediocre films just because Brando, Jennifer Jason Leigh or Oliver Reed are in it.

wendersfan 05-25-05 07:45 AM

Actors - I don't give a shit about actors
Directors - I own every feature made by Wong Kar-Wai. I own every available by Robert Bresson, the Dardennes, Tsai Ming-Liang, and a few others. Ironically, I'm not a Wim Wenders completist.

Smidget 05-25-05 08:17 AM

Coen Brothers, Scorsese, Woody Allen, (easy one to do but) Wes Anderson :)

Jason Bovberg 05-25-05 08:25 AM

Hitchcock (about 50 films!) and the Coen brothers

auto 05-25-05 08:46 AM

David Lynch
Coen Bros.
David Fincher

marty888 05-25-05 08:47 AM

I might as well admit it: I am NOT a completist, except in the sense that once I have all the movies that I actually like by an actor/director, I feel my collection is complete.

So, for example, while I have tons of Woody Allen movies, there is no way I'm using shelf space for Interiors, and seeing Hitchcock's The Skin Game many years ago on VHS was more than enough.

I really don't think I'm missing anything in life by not cramming my shelves with movies I dislike.

Filmmaker 05-25-05 08:59 AM

Steven Spielberg
David Lynch
David Fincher
I'm working towards completion of Stanley Kubrick (I'm only missing KILLER'S KISS and THE KILLING) and Alfred Hitchcock

No actors...even my favorites (Jack Nicholson/Richard Dreyfuss) have been in their fair share of unwatchable stinkers.

Matthew Chmiel 05-25-05 09:14 AM

I own all of Kevin Smith's films.
I own all of Dario Argento's R1 DVDs except Sleepless.
I own all of David Fincher's films except The Game.
I own all of Wes Anderson's films except Bottle Rocket.
I own 10 Steven Spielberg films.

Maxflier 05-25-05 09:19 AM

Jean-Claude Van Damme

reverie 05-25-05 09:19 AM

I have a feeling I'm in a different place than everyone else here, but anyway: For a director, I'll get anything Tim Burton puts out. As far as actors, I'll pick up something if Tommy Lee Jones is in it (granted, he generally just plays the same character anyway, I'll admit), and Nicole deBoer (cos she's so damn cute ;) ).

fumanstan 05-25-05 09:31 AM

I used to collect all of Arnold Schwarzenegger's movies, until i decided i wanted to trim my collection into movies that i'll actually rewatch and thoroughly enjoy. Kevin Smith is up there for me though.

Dr. DVD 05-25-05 09:36 AM

Stanley Kubrick
Paul Verhoeven-his American films at least
Kevin Smith
Terry Gilliam-waiting for a SE of Baron Muchausen and Fisher King

Geofferson 05-25-05 09:40 AM

Directors:

Michael Mann
Alfred Hitchcock
Martin Scorsese
Brian DePalma
Sam Peckinpah

Actors:
Terence Hill

Derrich 05-25-05 09:42 AM

My Cynthia Rothrock collection is nearly complete but it's a mix of DVD, VHS and VCD.
The next closest is Jennifer Connelly, but I'm 3 short.
Do concert films count? If so, I have every DVD that Sade has done.

ShagMan 05-25-05 10:01 AM

You guys are gonna laugh, but like all movies with Gary Oldman... don't have all of them yet, but working on it :)
