how crowded will theaters be thursday? I hate being in a packed theater. Do you think the theater will be packed thursday afternoon after all the midnight showings.

Expect a full house.

Yep it will be bad, I'm actually thinking waiting a week or so before seeing the movie, even then the lines would still be a bit long.

VERY, VERY, VERY Crowded.

My question is how soon should I show up to get good seats for the midnight showing? I just want to make sure I am not in the front 5 -10 rows and other than that I will be happy. I am at a conference in Baltimore with 2 other guys and we got midnight tickets. The bad thing is we are meeting some other people for dinner that night but don't know what time the reservations are and won't know until I see them Wednesday afternoon. We plan on going to the theater right after we are done eating though that may be close to 9-10 PM. Are we screwed or will 2-3 hours early be soon enough? I don't need replies specific for Baltimore but rather just opinions in general.

Honestly, I'd try to get somebody to keep your place in line if you can't cancel on the dinner. 2-3 hours before midnight may be cutting it a little bit too close. I have two younger cousins of mine who I've instructed to drive to the theater--that's right beside a mall--as soon as they get out of school. They'll probably get there around 4. I told them to check right away if there's a line already. If there is, get in line and I'll just bring them food when I get off of work at 5. If there's no line yet, they can just go around the mall or something but be sure to check every 30 minutes to see if a line's already forming. I am nothing if not thorough. :saber:

I agree with Kal-El but it will depend on your theater. Some are crazier than others.
I'll be getting to the theater at 4pm. 16 sold out screens at the AMC 20. If you show up 2 hours before, you're fucked... and not in a good way. Plus there are 3 in your party. Either you'll be sitting up front or you'll have to split the group up. Good luck and may the... oh, nevermind :nopanic: |
I hope that isn't the case at the showings in Boston. I can't wait that long in line.. The previous two I showed up like an hour early and had no problems, it was crowded, but didn't get stuck in the first rows, and that was in Chicago.. Hopefully this city will be the same.

My PSP will be quite useful on Wednesday.
|
I would expect the theaters to be at capacity at least until Monday.

Depends on where you live. I was in WV when I saw TPM and AOTC. I caught midnight showings and then just drove the the theater the following day and caught a mid afternoon show. TPM wasn't even a quarter full, AOTC was maybe 3/4 full (was in a slightly bigger town).
Point being, more rural areas will be much less crowded. Kids still being in school helps a lot, even a lot of colleges are still ongoing. So it's mostly people skipping work or with the day off. However, in Urban areas theres' a ton more people, thus more taking off work, so it will be packed. |

I'm not getting in line more than an hour early. If I get stuck up front so be it. I'll see it more than once so no big deal. I haven't had problems with other SW or LOTR midnight showings arriving an hour or so early. A lot of people rush straight to the back (and some amazingly to the front) so I can usually get spot either right in the middle or a quarter of the way up from the screen. But if not, no biggie, will get great seats when I see it again in a couple weeks. :D |
what about a 10:30am showing on thursday...still crowded?
|
Depending on your area and the amount of shows, I don't think there should be too much of a problem seeing a late morning/early afternoon show on Thursday (not including digital presentations, etc).
I'm only planning on showing up at 10pm for the midnight showing, but then again, not too much of a huge deal where I live (I think). |
My local Cinemark will show the film on 6 different screens Wednesday at midnight. All are sold out. I don't think I'll go until sunday afternoon.
|
When TPM came out, I waited in line for 8 hours and saw the midnight show in a packed theater. The next day I went and saw it again at 1:00 and the theater was 75% full, but plenty of room to move around. I expect the same in my location. So I plan on leaving work early on Thursday and catching a matinee before the high schoolers get out.

I think Ep 1 had a bigger hype machine, but this one is getting better reviews.
I'd pay a buck or two more for a theater that sells RESERVED SEATS! Is this too much to ask? I'm going Friday at 6pm. Gonna be a madhouse. |
I'm going to attempt a 6:45 showing Thursday evening. But there are 3 big theaters within 15 miles of each other, so I hope that helps with crowds. So far, the theater I'm going to only has 1 midnight showing sold out with 2 still open. And no sellouts for any other showings....yet.

you must live in northern nj, because clifton commons is only 5 minutes from my house. I generally go to secaucus though cheaper and less crowded. |
All times are GMT -5. The time now is 10:58 AM. |
