Darn, was hoping Unleashed would do better, but i guess considering the small opening it wasn't too shabby.

Gosh, it's starting to look like Hitchhikers will barely make $50 million. Guess that rules out the sequels unless it's huge on DVD...

It boggles the mind that more people are going to Monster-In-Law than Kicking & Screaming. Not that Kicking & Screaming is great - but it's at least watchable. I'm guessing there must have been a percentage of movie goers that wanted to see Jane Fonda in a film again - that's about the only explanation I can come up with.

Look at the review thread for Kicking and Screaming. One post. Seemed like people were meh about it. I think Will lost some fans with Anchorman... and this film isn't going to bring 'em back. It'll be interesting to see how well Bewitched does. He has so many projects coming up, maybe he's spreading himself too thin.

But by looking at the top 10, this movie is the only one that qualifies as a "date" movie. Maybe people are still not sick and tired of Jlo just yet.

Based on the ads and trailers, Kicking & Screaming looks like a family film and the disinterest might be that they want to see Ferrell in more "adult" roles like Old School.

Well Li's film was barely in half the theaters that the other two films were in. It's per screen average is right up there with the rest of them.

Unleashed was one of the best times I've had at the movies in ages and the best thing Luc Besson has been involved with since Leon. At my showing people actually broke out in applause twice(once during the scene in the bathroom with the bald albino and at the end credits). J-Ho and Jane Traitor can go to hell

I really don't think Li and company were expecting to be out-averaged by about $1,500 by the new Jane Fonda film.

Why was Unleashed in so few theaters? I saw plenty of advertising for it. It seems like it would be a bigger release.

I saw both "Monster-in-Law" and "Unleashed" this weekend. Yes, I went solely to see Jane Fonda, who has been sorely missed onscreen. "Unleashed" was my first Jet Li film. On the other hand, I've never seen a Will Ferrell "starring" film and have no desire whatsoever to see one. (Though I did see him in "Melinda and Melinda".) I just can't believe what they seem to have done with "Bewitched".

I think the reasoning for the low theater count is because technically its an indie movie. Rouge films (as well as focus features) are the independent companies of Universal.

Well the totals really didn't suprise me. The studios wasted a prime weekend with releasing crap. Oh well.

Perhaps since it broke the $100m (a milestone) this weekend at the box office, he felt it appropriate to be in a thread about this weekends box office. Glad it showed some legs.

Nice to see Crash go down such a small amount.

Wasted?

Two films opening at 20+ million is not a wasted weekend.
