Forman, Bardem, Portman: Goya's Ghosts

Goya’s Ghosts stars Javier Bardem as the painter Francisco Goya while Natalie Portman plays his muse. Set in 1792 Spain, a scandal surfaces when a manipulative monk who is the mastermind behind the Spanish Inquisition accuses Goya’s muse of heresy. Portman will also play the muse’s daughter who may be the child of the monk. Milos Forman directs and co-writes with Jean-Claude Carriere.

Set for 2006.

Can't go wrong with that trio.

May check this out only because of Portman. The storyline doesn't interest me much.

For someone who wanted to quit acting after Star Wars, Portman sure is taking on a lot of projects.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I thought she kept saying she was gonna be a doctor?

2006 is a whopper of a year for Forman as he's also directing Nicolas Cage in Amarillo Slim.

Maybe she'll join the cast of E.R., or Gray's Anatomy, or .... House?

Not the best source, but here's what the NY Post's Page Six says about Natalie:

NATALIE IN BUFF

July 11, 2006 -- NATALIE Portman will do "the full Monty" and appear totally naked in her new film, "Goya's Ghosts," a biopic on Spanish painter Francisco Goya. Portman will play the artist's muse, who is accused of atheism and then stripped in a torture scene. Portman, 24, was shot naked in "Closer," but begged director Mike Nichols to edit it, and ended up dancing in a thong. Portman denied at the time that she was doffing her duds to shed her childlike Princess Amidala persona from "Star Wars." "I don't do it in order to prove something," she said. "I just go on with my life and do what feels right."

Milos Forman, the leads and the storyline are all of interest to me. Portman in the buff would mearly be a bonus.

Count me in.

Edit: Earlier tonight on the television show Access Hollywood, Portman's agent stated that the nude scenes in Goya's Ghost mentioned by an Aint-it-cool news reviewer were in fact by a body double.

Did/Will this ever get a US release? I think it's only been released in Spain thus far. I would love to see this. Guess I'm gonna have to look into whether the R2 has english subs.

It's definitely been in a couple of theaters in New York. I saw the ads three or four weeks ago.

If this is true, I’ll definitely pick this up when it comes to DVD. I like Natalie Portman even though her acting on the three Star Wars films was god awful. I’ve liked most of Portman’s work.
