Extended "DLP" version

I remember Lucas did this for the DLP version of The Phantom Menace with a shot that was exclusive to the DLP edition. Word is that, again Lucas is inserting some footage for RoTS, this is some truth to this rumour, right?

PixyJunket 05-03-05 10:15 AM

Yup.

Groucho 05-03-05 10:25 AM

How asinine for those who don't live in areas with DLP theaters.

JayDerek 05-03-05 10:26 AM

I agree. This is pretty lame, but at least the scene in question should be in the DVD this fall.

It just makes the anger build...

IanH 05-03-05 11:11 AM

Yup, Lucas did it just to piss off some of you.

Ha. Ha. :nopanic:

Giles 05-03-05 11:23 AM

well Lucas can piss off... :D

If he had any common sense, he'd would have made DLP not so costly and aggressively pushed theatres to integrate them, as Spielberg did with DTS theatrical sound.

PixyJunket 05-03-05 11:23 AM

If it's anything like Attack of the Clones, it'll be really ancillary. For AOTC it was just a different shot of Anakin's hand during the last scene, nothing to get upset about and nothing to go our of the way to catch DLP for.

TK-421 05-03-05 12:23 PM

Well, the only scene added so far is rumored to be
Spoiler:
Yoda landing on Dagobah

Not quite a spoiler, but just wanted to be safe.

THAT would be

Yup. But didn't Georgie push for THX? IIRC didn't he do something exclusive for theatres that didn't have THX/DLP? Perhaps it was someone else. I remember reading it somewhere.

That's comparing apples and oranges. DTS isn't NEARLY as expensive as DLP to theatre companies. A DTS reader/system usually costs between 5-10k per screen, whereas setting up an entire digital format projector could cost more than 100k per screen. This cost just doesn't add up - especially when those who are pushing it aren't bearing any of the monetary load...

digitalfreaknyc 05-06-05 02:48 AM

That scene isn't in the DLP version.

Terrell 05-06-05 02:51 AM

The Yoda scene in question really didn't need to be in the film. However, I was disappointed to learn that the Qui-Gon/Yoda scene was not in the film either. That was a great scene that was important to show.

[note to self]So we've entered a spoiler zone in this thread.[/note to self]

Giles 05-06-05 07:40 AM

I agree bothanspy, that was pretty blatant for Terrell to post that response of his.

TK-421 05-06-05 10:51 AM

Bummer... however, since it is digital Lucas could be still working on it and just beam over a new copy in two weeks? Just some idle speculation.

Toad 05-06-05 10:59 AM

I am bummed by everything in this thread. :(

Thanks for the spoilers, too.

exactly, I remember reading he made a few changes to the digital AOTC a few days before it came out

Josh H 05-06-05 01:58 PM

Who cares about spoling something that's not in the movie.

Saw it on DLP myself and can confirm the scene wasn't there also. Don't know how much it would have added, would have been cool to see, but we know where Yoda's going.

DonkeyKong 05-22-05 10:35 PM

Does anyone know if this is true for Episode 3? Has anyone compared a digital screening with a regular film screening?

Thanks!

alfredog1976 05-22-05 11:04 PM

No scene with Yoda in DLP version. Ticks me off as GL said it would be in DLP version. Almost makes me want to join the Dark Side...

Rammsteinfan 05-22-05 11:11 PM

It will either be on the DVD or they will re-release a DLP version in a few weeks w/ more footage to get even more money from fans to get them back to see it again.

Y2K Falcon 05-23-05 12:05 AM

George Luca$$ raped my DLP extra.

jough 05-23-05 01:06 AM

I'd travel/pay to see the DLP version if he added a few extra scenes. This film was too short.
