If someone likes Closer would they like...

Looking to get a movie for someone, they've watched Closer like 10 times in the last week, would they like The Unbearable Lightness of Being? I'm looking for an adult drama, and opinions of people who love Closer.
Thanks!

I think they might like sex, lies, and videotape, as I saw it packaged with Closer at Wal-Mart once.

No, Unbearable Lightness of Being is barely bearable to watch. Sex, Lies, is a great film but it is not romantic.

Closer isn't really romantic either though. Unbearable was definitely disappointing...

I liked The Unbearable Lightness of Being and am reading the book right now (sort of on a Milan Kundera kick since I just read The Book of Laughter and Forgetting and The Art of the Novel). I'm surprised it gets no love here--I saw it a long time ago along with the Three Colors Trilogy and thought it was a good movie.

I have the novel (Unbearable Lightness), and I recently traded for the film, so I'm interested in seeing it. This thread has been a bit of an eye-opener, but I'm definitely not ruling out a good movie-going experience when it shows up in my mailbox.

Soderbergh's "Sex, Lies, ..." is a good recommendation. While not really romantic (like Closer at times), it's still a good love triangle type film.

I've seen both, and I don't really get the connection other than that they both feature Natalie Portman--in which case, I also recommend Lemony Snicket, The Runaway Bride, and King Arthur.

I'm not dissing your recommendation entirely, though, because I think G.S. is a very good movie--I just personally don't understand the similarity between the two.

Neither is "Garden State," but I agree with the sentiment that the two movies are nothing like each other. "Your Friends and Neighbors" is probably more in keeping with the narcissistic characters of "Closer." But thanks for bringing your insight into the discussion.

I have to disagree; I really like it, although it is long. Philip Kaufman did a great job making a movie of a virtually unfilmable novel (which is my favorite work of literature, period).

I liked both Closer and Sex, Lies...... I would also recommend one that one to someone who likes Closer.

The movie doesn't have to be similar to Closer, just something that they would like. I'm considering Amelie or Rushmore, for example.

I would also recommend We Don't Live Here Anymore. It's not as good as Closer but the plot is sort of similar with couples swapping with other couples.

I don't want to be a threadcrapper, but if the recommendation isn't based on the movie being like Closer, what's the point of this thread?

They like Closer, so I'm going to recommend to them Amelie --Okay, then how about also recommending A Hard Day's Night and La Femme Nikita. Why? ...Why not? They're good movies.
