Fangoria's Weekend of Horror (Burbank, California)

http://www.creationent.com/cal/dod.htm

anyone going?

lots of great guests and stuff on schedule.

also if anyone has ever gone to one of these, what kind of guests charge for their autographs, or don't make table appearances at all? I am asking because at Wondercon in San Francisco guys like Christian Bale were only signing to people who won a contest (?), and Kevin Smith I guess was only at the View Askew table for so long, which is understandable.

Well, the Adultcon is more of a priority this weekend for me. :D

Anyone ever been? Is it setup similar to Comiccon? Are there vendors selling items/toys?

Fangoria is definitely not like the Comic-Con. I've been to about 5 Fangorias, but they've progressively have gotten lamer. They were great back in the early 90's, 2-3 dealer/promo rooms, 1 auditorium, lots of people, I ran into Sam Raimi & Bruce Campbell (they were joking with me about which TV show was better, Brisco County Jr. or Hercules, which Sam produced), Quentin Tarantino (he finished writing Pulp Fiction the previous night) and Peter Jackson (who had to leave for NZ the next day and stopped by to check the place out, I think his most recent film at the time was The Frighteners) on the floor. They weren't announced they were just hanging out and signed things. Me and my friends would wander around and hang out for hours, all day sometimes, checking out cool posters and buying "archived copies" of hard to find movies. This was back when laserdiscs were just becoming popular, not a DVD in sight.

Last time I went was in 2000, I think, when it was in Pasadena. I only went because Rob Zombie was going to talk about 1k Corpses and show a little bit of footage and sign stuff. The convention sucked, it was like 1 dealer room (which had nothing but cr!p) and 1 auditorium room. Me and my g/f were done looking at stuff in about 1/2 hour and spent the couple of hours in the auditorium and left right after the Rob Zombie thing. We both agreed it was a waste of $20 each.

I don't know if it's Fangoria's fault that it sucks now. The guests (overall) aren't as great as they used to be, the horror scene in general isn't as great as it once was and you can watch previews and trailers online now instead of seeing them for the first time there. The line-up seems pretty decent this year, if I were to go, I'd definitely lower my expectations and be willing to p!ss away $20.
