Why don't these two do comedies like they used to do before?

I miss Erik the Viking (especially on DVD!!!) and Big and stuff like that.

maybe its cuz comedians dont get the love on oscar night? lol.

Before they probably just went with whatever they could get, or whatever payed most. Now they can pick and choose roles that they want to do. Plus both have proven themselves as good actors, so I guess they like to stick with whatever challenges them.

It's like Jim Carrey. All he really does now are dramatic movies.

Huh? Is that a joke, or is there another Jim Carrey I don't know about?

As for Hanks and Robbins, well, they got older, they got the ability to do more diverse and challenging material, and obviously enjoy drama moreso then straight comedy. Perhaps it's the respect of doing dramas, or the acting challenge, or the variety, or who knows. There could be a milion reasons why, or all those reasons at once.

Tom Hanks did The Ladykillers and The Terminal last year. I'd consider both comedies, although The Ladykillers probably more so than The Terminal.

Tim Robbins has always gone from drama to comedy to drama etc... it's not like he started with one type and then grew up. Tom Hanks was into comedy and wanted to do some serious stuff - he wanted to be taken seriously probably as an actor. Robin Williams and Steve Martin did the same thing. It's pretty common for versatile actors to run the spectrum.

True, Tim Robbins has always gone back and forth. He's done drama his whole career, and has been in comedies throughout, whether it be back in the day with Bull Durham or more modern like Nothing to Lose or cameos in Anchorman or HUman Nature.

As for Tom Hanks...he's moved on. He does the occasional comedy as stated, Ladykillers or You've Got Mail. And as much as I'd watch Bachelor Party 2, he's probably better off for it. He was never the RObin Williams type comedic performer, and excels in drama, so he might as well do it.

Say What? Steve Martin as a serious actor, bwa hahahaha ha.

Whether successful or not, Steve Martin has attempted more dramatic roles (and I thought he was good in The Spanish Prisoner).

Actually, one of Tom Hanks' very first projects was a drama. Remember the made-for-TV movie Mazes and Monsters?

Actually, Robbins was one of the three leads in Human Nature.

I'm a big fan of Bachelor Party and The 'Burbs, but I can't imagine Hanks ever doing a movie like either of those these days. :)
