Funny this was brought up as I have watched the first 3 movies the last three days. Voom was running part 1, 2 & 3 back to back in HD. They looked pretty good. I dvd'ed them all since Part 1's dvd is non-anamorphic & neither part 2 or 3 are available on dvd.
Part 1 scared the crap out of me as a child as well but it still spooks me out mainly due to Lalo Schifrin's excellent super-spooky score. The children singing has always given me chills for some reason.
Part 2 was interesting since i had not seen it in about 15 years. Decent movie that deals with the family being murdered by the son b/c the house possesses him.
Part 3 was not very good. Originally done in 3-D, the Voom transfer was very clean but was not shown in 3-D. It always makes me laugh to see movies originally done in 3-D shown normal b/c you have instances of tools, hands, flys, microphones, etc., coming straight at the screen which means absolutely nothing when watching it with a normal transfer. The effects are pretty bad as is the acting. A very young Meg Ryan shows up but she doesn't have much of a part. A couple of creepy parts but they changed the music which was always the main creepy part for me.

Which Amityville had a scene in which a woman is burned alive in her car? OR am I thinking about another movie?
When I first read about this, I was wondering if this re-make would be another Michael Bay re-imagining with Jessica Biel or Elisha Cuthbert as the teenage daughter with a lot of obligatory strip teases.

Although to early to tell, do you think Bay and company found a niche in horror films? While many bitched and moaned about the Chainsaw remake, I thought it was pretty damn good after being able to sideline my anger and I think this remake is going to be damn good as well.
Just a thought and yes, If he/they continue to make horror films, It would be nice to see something original from them as well.

I don't understand, not for the life of me, why they went with that house. I have high hopes that this film will generate "respect," as well as good old-fashioned dollars. I don't want this film to be laughable, as it will make a mockery of the legend, which is already very shaky. If it is a hit, it will not only help the franchise, but it will offer a new perspective to the younger generation who weren't around when the events originally occurred.
I'm thinking they went with a house that looked nothing like the original Amityville house as a favor to the Wilsons, the current owners of the Amityville house? If the movie is a hit, and people go out in search of the real house and find that it looks nothing like the one portrayed in the movie, then the Wilsons will not be as overwhelmed with "ghost hunters." Just a thought.

I'm definately willing to give it a chance. After these other horror remakes turned out pretty decent, this one might as well. I know Texas Chainsaw massacre is not loved by all, but I thought the remake to be a down and dirty horror slasher film, and quite entertaining, and that Dawn of the Dead turned out way better than anyone thought could happen. Considering the original Amityville doesn't compare at all to TCM or Dawn of the Dead originals, this remake actually has much mroe potential. And they've done a couple of these right, so this might turn out decently. Trailer looks interesting.

MELISSA GEORGE!!!!!!!
She's in this film!
I shall, also, be in TWO things -
1. the line to see this film, in front of everyone else
2. love with her forever and ever and ever

I knew I should have asked her to make a "personal" video when I loaned her my video camera when I was working on Sugar and Spice. I would have something to hold over DonnachaOne's head.
