i'll have to say Stay by Lisa Loeb in Reality Bites for the simple reason that she went from unsigned and unknown to #1 on the charts because of this movie.

Also: "Layla" in Goodfellas... I love that part. The bit with DeNiro and "Sunshine For Your Love" is great too.

You're the Best - Karate Kid
You're the Best - Karate Kid
Anyway, the correct answer to this question is clearly "Meet Me Half Way" by Kenny Loggins from the tour de force Over the Top.

This was the first thing that popped into my head. Man, I can't resist watching that movie and listening to that song.

S&G's "Sound of Silence" - The Graduate*
Cat Stevens' "Trouble" - Harold and Maude*
German Opera's "Marriage of Figaro" - Shawshank Redemption
Buffalo Springfield's "For What it's worth" - Forrest Gump*

I know this doesn't really count since it is a tv show and not a movie, but i love the episode in season 3 of Alias where they use Change by the Deftones, that was a kickass scene.

I think a case could be made for Killing Moon from Donnie Darko as well. Music was just used brilliantly in that film. Wish it had a real soundtrack...although I think I have all the songs I'd need to put one together myself.

"PEACHES" (aka "Walkin' on the Beaches Lookin' at the Peaches") by THE STRANGLERS, perfectly setting the scene and getting the ball rolling (or stone, as it were) for Jonathan Glazer's underrated "SEXY BEAST".
