"Drugstore Cowboy"? (spoilers)

Does Matt Dillion dies at the end? or is that left open to the imagination...

anyone know?

I think it was supposed to be left to the imagination. It probably varies from person to person depending on whether they thought he was capable of reforming his ways or not.

"Well, to begin with, nobody, and I mean nobody, can talk a junkie out of using. You can talk to 'em for years but sooner or later they're gonna get ahold of something. Maybe it's not dope. Maybe it's booze, maybe it's glue, maybe it's gasoline. Maybe it's a gunshot to the head. But something. Something to relieve the pressures of their everyday life, like having to tie their shoes."

Been awhile since I seen it, but I think he actually dies at the beginning. The rest of the movie is sorta like his life flashing before his eyes.

The movie could be seen as a dying dream, but I prefer to think he lives.

As do I... IMO, the ending/beginning is open for interpretation. At first viewing, I got the impression that he died... On repeat viewings, I've always got the impression that he lives. Great film, one of my favorites.

I never interpreted it as him dying. Rather, he had to face the pain of living yet again.
