your favorite TOM & JERRY cartoon

These were originally theatrical which is why I'm posting this thread here...

My favorite would have to be The Bodyguard. Great outdoor animation - cobbled streets (1944-style), huge curbs that reflect the sizes of the cat and mouse - and a clever plot twist: Jerry gets past the obstacle that is a wad of gum and gets to whistle, but the dog can't help anymore because he got recaptured by the dog catcher.

I don't know the titles, but I get the biggest kick out of the few where Tom has a bit of dialogue. Since both characters were almost always completely mute this adds an extra kick:

"What's cookin'?"

"Gee ... I'm givin' away a million dollars!"

(These may be the only two examples for all I know)

Also where he sings "Is you is, or is you ain't, my baby?"

The one where Jerry pretends to be a ghost in a penthouse apartment, it's really the music and atmosphere of that one that do it.

i love the one where the street cats make fun of Tom and threat him like a baby, the part where the short one starts singing "mama yo quieeeeeeerooo.....mama yo quieeeeeero" always gets me. Baby Puss is the name of the episode i think.

Hmm.. too many to name.

Tom inherits a million dollars but can't harm a living thing, including Jerry.

Tom teaching the little cat to be a mouse catcher.

And Jerry's uncle who keeps breaking his guitar strings.

I always liked the ones where you see the sensitive side of Tom, like the Christmas episode or the one where he spends a lot of time preparing a duck to eat, only to adopt him in the end. Or the one where he has a nightmare of having to make peace with Jerry or end up going to Hell.

Definately! Was about to post it. I love when Cartoons are centered around a classical piece. In this case Hungarian Rhapsody.

I also liked Johan Mouse

I always liked the one where Tom got killed by the piano roling down the stairs. Then, he has to get Jerry to forgive him by signing a contract so he can go to heaven.

that was my favorite.

The Cat Concerto is the one where Tom is playing the piano. The one with him as a conductor along with Jerry is called "Tom and Jerry in the Hollywood Bowl".

Another I really like is "Flirty Birdy," where Tom has competition with a hawk over eating Jerry. Tom dresses in drag to get him back and the hawk is really turned on by the sound that the "beak" (party horn) makes.

"Awwww, he fell in the fishbowl!"

T&J in a department store. Jerry runs around a corner. Tom follows, but then stops dead because there is a shelf of mouse dolls that look just like Jerry. Tom grabs one and pulls its tail.
Jerry doll: "Mama!"
Tom discards doll and grabs another.
Jerry doll: "Mama!"
Tom discards doll and grabs another.
Jerry doll: "Mama!"
Tom discards doll and grabs another.
Jerry doll: "Yeowwch!"
Tom: "A-HA!"

I hate the later ones where Tom & Jerry are friends.

"DON'T . . . YOU . . . BELIEVE IT!" — Jerry paints himself white to fool Tom into thinking he's an escaped and "volatile" white lab mouse.

and a lot of my other favorites are already listed here.

I'm pretty sure that everyone's favorites are the Hanna-Barbera classics from the mid-to-late 40's. They're beautifully animated and have a ton of humor.

I can't say the same about the ones made by Gene Deitch in the early 60's. Most of these were okay (Calypso Cat being my favorite) but the way these toons looked and sounded were just...Trippy.

I hated the ones by Chuck Jones. Were these supposed to be funny?

No comment on "The New Adventures of Tom and Jerry".

I like the one where Tom's lookalike cousin, who's afraid of Jerry, comes to visit. I like this episode because it's one of the few where Tom ends up winning over Jerry at the end.

oh there are plenty!

i'll second the episode where tom get pancaked by a piano and goes to heaven.

also -

the rube goldberg episode
the episode where tom has a lair and jerry is breaking in. involves some robots, etc.

jerry with his speed up potion (i can picture him eating the cheese wheel now. lol)

i really liked the older ones. i dont remember much as i rarely saw them, but they were a lot noisier. i think tom was riding a toy train once.

and of course, all the ones with blackface. just because they deserve some love even if they are controversial.
