Cheech and Chong movies... Take 'em or leave 'em?
 

I enjoy The Corsican Brothers, and I have seen a couple of them on TV, that I thought were funny (Up in Smoke, C&C's Next Movie.)

I have recently picked up the DVDs of Still Smokin', and Nice Dreams. I watched Still Smokin' a couple of weeks ago, and Nice Dreams today, and I have decided to get rid of them both.

IMHO, Nice Dreams was pretty bad. Sure, it had some funny moments, but it seemed like it was written, directed, and edited by C&C, in one of their "high" moments. One bright spot was seeing Michael Winslow doing a Jimmy Hendrix impersonation during a LSD trip.

Still Smokin' was a little bit better, but there really wasn't any conflict, and the whole thing seemed like a collection of skits more than an actual movie.

I think I will still eventually get Up in Smoke and Cheech and Chong's Next Movie. I don't think I have seen Things Are Tough All Over, but it could be that I have seen bits and pieces on TV.

What are your favorite films from the duo, and which ones do you think were bad? Do they only appeal to a certain audience that grew up on them, or do you think people today still like them?

The only one I really enjoyed was Up in Smoke. Obviously stoner comedies aren't for everyone, so, that's that. I'd jsut stick to the first one myself though.

Up In Smoke is the best. Then Next Movie, then Nice Dreams, etc. Pretty much each movie got successively worse and worse until they bottomed out with The Corsican Brothers.

They had a nice cameo in After Hours after that.

The first half hour of Up in Smoke is CLASSIC stuff. But the movie loses momentum quickly. It's still my favorite movie of theirs, however.

Next Movie is the dullest. There's only 1 scene that got a laugh out of me (Opening sequence in the van)

Still Smokin' (As mentioned above) is just a whole bunch of skits. Definetly not a well-polished movie, but all that matters is if it made me laugh--which it did on a number of occasions.

I've always thought Nice Dreams was their overall funniest, but not my favorite. The "hijinks" humor is better than the "stoner" humor. And it was a trip hearing Paul (Pee-Wee) Ruebens say the "F" word.

Things/Over is like Next Movie to me. One funny sequence (Laundromat scene) but the novelty really wears off.

I still haven't seen Corsican Bros in it's entirety yet.

You're not missing much. It's pretty much what you'd expect from a Cheech & Chong movie that doesn't have drug humor.

Up in Smoke is one of my all time favorites. I never really did care for any of the other ones though.

Up in Smoke is classic,. The rest are pretty worthless. They'll have their good parts, but are overall misses.

I agree (I was about to post the same thing). Up In Smoke was great and each movie that they put out after was not as good as the one before it.

I love those flicks... But, like most things, the more they did the worse they were.

Things Are Tough All Over & The Corsican Brothers are the least of their films but I still enjoyed them.
