I can respect that Tyler Perry has a big following.
I can't respect that he decided to play an obnoxious grandmother in drag.
But apparently that sells these days. I know the movie is split between that and pseudo-serious drama, but my god is it a tired trend.
Hitch keeps trotting along.
Nice to see Million Dollar Baby, Sideways and The Aviator holding on for dear life, and doing so very well.

Like I said before My Big Fat Greek Wedding came out of nowhere and was a hit play and did well at the BO and Diary of A Mad Black Woman has a similar following. I don't expect Diary to make as much as Wedding but it should make a decent profit.

Well, this is a little different then Big Fat Greek Wedding. That film was a slow growing phenomenon, while this hit big opening weekend. If this film manages to make good money next weekend, then we'll see what it's long term prospects will be. But with an opening like that, it's a hit no matter what.

Upon seeing this weekend's boxoffice results, including a 60% drop for Constantine and a #1 finish for Diary of a Mad Black Woman, Keanu Reeves was quoted as saying "Woah!" Several experienced box office analysts expounded on that by adding "Dude!"

I can't say Constantine's drop is too surprising, given the genre and overall word of mouth. Diary of a Mad Black Woman and Hitch's incredibly low drop off percentage, those are very impressive though.

Heh, here's what IMDb had to say before the numbers started coming in:
'Hitch' Likely To Post Third Straight Win
The movie industry, which will be competing with itself this weekend when the Oscar presentations are staged, is dumping three new films in theaters -- one of them utterly trashed by critics, the other two, withheld from them altogether. Most analysts predict that the lack of strong competition will enable Sony's Hitch to score a third box-office victory. But others figure that Wes Craven's werewolf movie Cursed, starring Christina Ricci and Jesse Eisenberg, could pull an upset win. (Horror films dominated the box office in January and the first part of February.) Not much hope is held for the other two films, Man of the House, starring Tommy Lee Jones and Cedric the Entertainer, and Diary of a Mad Black Woman, starring Tyler Perry, who also wrote the script.
