Not Martin Scorsese. While it would be nice for him to win, I really do wish that he would stop making a bunch of "gimme my Oscar" type movies that seem to have in the contract agreement to be released in December of whatever year they put them in theaters.
Hitchcock never won an award, and Scorsese most likely won't. I will say that I think it's a raw deal in that his strength seems to lie in the New York crowd and area and the Oscars are all about, well, Hollywood.

Has Entertainment Weekly posted their predictions yet? If someone has an EW account, could you please post their picks? thanks

Those are the ones I care about. I wish "Eternal Sunshine" had gotten more love, especially Jim Carrey who I thought was just phenomenal. Clint Eastwood deserves everything he's GOING to win - he's just a complete class act and his films are beautiful.

Wazootyman 02-21-05 12:54 AM

Even before I saw The Aviator, I had fingered it as best picture and best director. Time passed, I saw the movie.
My immediate response coming out of it was "This was a good movie, not the best of the year - Scorsese is still a lock."
I (finally) saw Million Dollar Baby today. My opinion is there will be a split, Million Dollar Baby will take the picture, Scorsese will take the directing.
It's a pretty well known fact that the Oscars tend to not award the best films of that year with what they desrve. A lot are make good wins - Denzel for Training Day? Crowe for Gladiator? These were adequate jobs and the actual Oscar was for work previously performed.
Scorsese did an adequate job in Aviator, and will get the award as a result. Its the academy make good. When Gangs of New York came out, there was talk of that being Scorsese's Oscar ride, but that was not a good movie. This fact brought it down and let Polanski slip in. When Aviator comes and its actually good, and Scorsese deserves recognition for something, this will be the one that will do it.

matome 02-21-05 07:46 AM

At this point, I just hope Million Dollar Baby wins everything it's nominated for.
