Goddammit. Just watched BAADASSSS! for the second time the other night and we were talking about Davis and how under appreciated he has been. Funny how he's such an icon without any real starring turns. But he's up there with Poitier....

The interaction between him and Ruby Dee in Do the Right Thing is incredible and touching.

Da Mayor: Doctor...
Mookie: C'mon, what. What?
Da Mayor: Always do the right thing.
Mookie: That's it?
Da Mayor: That's it.
Mookie: I got it, I'm gone.

Also, I didn't know this until I went looking around on IMDB, but he wrote the eulogy for Malcolm X in 1965, which was later used in the end of Spike Lee's movie about the controversial man.

That sucks! "Bubba Ho-Tep" wouldn't have been the same! R.I.P.

I guess that makes 3...Mr. Carson, Mr. Vernon, and Mr. Davis. Very sad!

Aw man... I was just thinking about him last night after reading a review of the Malcolm X DVD.

I always wished that he could have had stronger roles like he did in Spike Lee's movies, or I'm Not Rappaport or Bubba Ho-Tep, instead of playing in stuff like 12 Angry Men where his appearance has as much weight as an extra.

What a great actor. He will be missed.

The role that always comes to mind first for me is his portrayal of Judge Farris in the adaptation of Stephen King's The Stand.

I meant to ask this a few weeks ago, and I may as well ask here. Was Ossie in the new ending of Napolean Dynamite? LaFownda's dad looked an awful lot like him.

Pours some Miller Highlight on the pavement for Da Mayor. A real standup human being.
