Sequels no one asked for...

...or aka, sequels that went direct-to-video that no one asked for.

Inspired by the direction this thread was taking.

What are some of the good (read: bad) sequels that nobody asked for?

I'll start it off with

The Substitute
  • The Substitute 2: School's Out
  • The Substitute 3: Winner Takes All
  • The Substitute 4: Failure Is Not An Option
Turbulence
  • Turbulence 2: Fear of Flying
  • Turbulence 3: Heavy Metal
Cruel Intentions
  • Cruel Intentions 2: Manchester Prep
  • Cruel Intentions 3
Universal Soldier
  • Universal Soldier 2: Brothers In Arms
  • Universal Soldier 3: Unfinished Business
  • Universal Soldier: The Return

Superbabies 2: Supergeniuses

Or how bout...The Son of Mask. Actually, I'm sure some wanted a sequel to The Mask, but not this sequel.

As a follow-up to Steve Martin's The Jerk, there was the infamous made-for-TV-movie The Jerk Too.

And how about most recently with Christmas Vacation 2: Cousin Eddie's Island Adventure.

It falls under the whole "sequels no one asked for". sure they didn't go direct to video. But they shouldn't have been made to begin with.

I kinda have to believe that there were people asking for sequels to The Matrix.

The Skulls 2 & 3, though. I think most people (myself included) got all the Skulls they could handle with the first one.

If you believe there were no people asking for Matrix sequels, then, well, I have no idea what planet you're on. If we're talking about sequels that some were disapointed with or didn't live up to expectations, then they'd fit. Nonetheless, like the Star Wars prequels, many people DID enjoy those films, regardless of the bitter hatred that some fans had against them.

We're talking about sequels that I don't think anyone wanted to see, and anyone could've cared at all if they were made. I'm pretty sure quite a few people wanted to see the Matrix sequels. That 140 million dollar first week of Matrix Reloaded kind of makes my point for me. You might as well call the Star Wars prequels movies "no one asked for."

I would add Leprechaun in Space and Leprechaun in The Hood as actual sequels nobody was asking for.

I'm looking forward to all five of these. The only iffy one is Italian Job 2. The first one was fun, but it will be hard to replicate it. Oh, and the Crow. Most gave on this series long ago, but WP is supposed to be a departure and rejuvinate the series, assuming it doesn't go straight to video like Salvation(which was utter crap), in which case it will be the final nail in the coffin for this series.

No matter what the majority think, there is always atleast one person who wants a sequel if the first made money... the studio.
