Sad to here. I've never seen his Hindi films, but I sure do have fond memories of him ripping that poor guy's heart out.
The article though, seems to have a mistake in it.
"Puri also played minor roles in two Hollywood films -- as the high priest in the Steven Spielberg adventure epic "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" (1984) and the sequel to "Raiders of the Lost Ark".
Wouldn't that be one Hollywood film? As far as I know, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom IS the sequel to Raiders of the Lost Ark. Oops I suppose.

That's too bad. I was really sad that he wasn't able to participate in the Indiana Jones documentary.
Cheers to the man who, to this day, scares the living shit out of me.

RIP.
He started out in Hindi films playing over-the-top villains(usually the only kind in hindi films) and later became a very good character actor.

Actually, there is more than just a date in Temple. Indy starts off Temple as pretty much a "belloq type of achaelogist" trading artifacts for money (or diamonds). He has a choice in Temple to go away with the rocks and not save the kids, and he makes the "right" choice. I think there is a definite swtich in the movie, something that is carried over to Raiders.
