First 5 Minutes of Elektra

Subtle.

Pretty much what I expected. Awful, simply awful. Jen doesn't even look as good as she did in Daredevil.

Third Baseman 01-07-05 10:15 PM

cute ;)

and its not even that Garner is bad because she is barely in those five minutes. its just a bad scene thats just so horriblely written.

agreed. i almost fast-forwarded it because it was getting boring.

Ketamine 01-07-05 10:50 PM

I thought it was alright. I wouldn't go to the theater but will rent it.

The Ferret 01-08-05 12:57 AM

Looks cheesy and trying too hard to be cool. I cringed at that last confrontation and when she first enters and the fans blowing in her face. I'm basing a lot on the first five minutes but... i definately won't see it.

From IMDB:

Garner Struck Down with Nerve Damage

The full extent of Daredevil star Jennifer Garner's ailments have been released - she's actually suffering from severe nerve damage. The actress pulled out of promotional work for her new movie Elektra last weekend amid reports she was pregnant with boyfriend Ben Affleck's baby. Her aides insisted she had a viral infection and was trying to recover in time for this Saturday's Elektra premiere in Las Vegas. But now it seems Garner was struck down with a nerve problem resulting from a stunt she performed on the set of her TV show Alias. An insider says, "We all thought she was suffering from a viral infection, but doctors concluded that it was more. Under doctor's orders to take it easy she had to cancel a hosting gig on Saturday Night Live and the film's press junket."

I thought the trailer looked bad and I had no intention of seeing this movie in the theater. Thanks to the dreadful first five minutes, I may not see this movie EVER!!! How does a scene like that get past the scripting phase?

Coral 01-08-05 11:16 AM

When I click on the clip - it just brings me to a Battlestar Gallactica page.

devilshalo 01-08-05 11:59 AM

(^o^)

Goat3001 01-08-05 12:07 PM

I think this film might be worth a rental just to see Jennifer Garner for an hour and a half. Ben Affleck is one lucky man.

fryinpan1 01-08-05 12:58 PM

It looks ok, similar to recent comic book superhero movies. I will wait for the DVD.

matome 01-08-05 02:24 PM

Wow, that was just...weak.

Trigger 01-08-05 03:03 PM

I don't understand how you folks can tell the difference and how this one looks particularly bad. To me, it looks like all the other Marvel-based movies. Catwoman = X-men = Elektra = Daredevil = Punisher = Batman. There have been a few exceptions - Spiderman and Hulk - but only because the directors put their style into it. Some would argue that Burton put his style into Batman, but I still think it looks like everything else.

Matthew Chmiel 01-08-05 04:29 PM

When did Catwoman and Batman become Marvel properties Trigger? ;)

Dr. DVD 01-08-05 04:42 PM

If that were a scene in DareDevil introducing the character of Elektra, then I would give it a , . As the first scene of a movie about her, that really is horrible. At least they got the part of her being a cold blooded assasin right this time.

I don't know... DC comics? It's all the same to me.

The Antipodean 01-08-05 08:12 PM

Holy crap, that was even worse than I was expecting. Already knew I wasn't seeing it in theaters, but might even pass renting the DVD now. :yack: And I even kinda liked "Daredevil"!

FantasticVSDoom 01-09-05 07:26 PM

I have to agree with Trigger...This movie doesnt look to be any different than most of the comic book movies out there or coming out. Not that I think there is anything wrong with that, because with the exception of a couple, I have been mildly entertained by most of them. I will give an exception to Sin City, because that one looks to really be something special. But Elektra looks no better or worse than any of the others really.

RocShemp 01-09-05 08:21 PM

I don't get all the hate for this intro sequence. Sure, it's very by-the-numbers but it's certainly not terrible because of it. It's not particularly original but it's not done in a shoddy ameteurish fashion either. Looks like it'll be kinda like the first X-Men in that it'll be good and entertaining but nothing you'd call great.

So I'm still looking forward to this even though I'm not expecting something along the lines of Superman: The Motion Picture, Road To Perdition, or Spider-Man 2 as far as comic-to-film adaptations go.

Trigger 01-10-05 06:14 AM

Maybe I just don't have that thing in my brain that allows me to see special tiny details in comic book movies that make them good or bad. It's like someone holding up two green apples and asking an audience that I'm a part of which one they would rather eat - everyone in the audience knows immediately which green apple tastes like heaven and which one tastes like shit... except me - to me, they both look like the same apple and for all I know, one of em is just a clone of the other.

Jay G. 01-10-05 06:33 AM

I don't know anything about Elektra, but that preview was weak.

dryars 01-10-05 12:01 PM

When you create a spin-off from a pile of turd, you can't expect it to become gold.

maingon 01-10-05 12:58 PM

why is everyone so hard on this movie. It didnt seem so bad. and Daredevil isnt as bad as people say. I think many people say that is because they dont like Ben Affleck.
