I think you'll find many non-kids (including myself) on this forum that would disagree strongly that the film is "just for kids."

I don't think it's for kids, but I seen it for the first time when I was about 10..
It's one of my favorite animated movies. Check it out.

After hearing so much about it on this forum, I bought the SE edition at CC.

I love Pixar and Disney movies like Finding Nemo, Incredibles, Lion King, Aladdin and so on. I found Iron Giant very entertaining, but not really re-watchable (for me) like the ones I previously stated.

Don't get me wrong, I see why everyone likes it. It is definately a great movie and I am glad to have it in my collection, but I doubt I will regularly view it.

Thumbs up! It is not just for kids (it made my girlfriend cry).

I first saw this film in my upper-level America and the Cold War history/politics class. My professor shows it every semester to his classes. Students of the Cold War and those who lived through it find it's extremely multi-layered in the way it handles the early Cold War Red Scare mentality.

My class loved it and I don't think there was one person in the room who felt above it. Entertaining and insightful.

If at any time in your life you have been a kid or a parent, then you should see this movie.

This movie is for all ages, 8 to 80. Heck adults watching the Iron Giant might have more fun than the kids.

I saw this in the theater when it was released (when I was 28 years old) by myself...and was floored by it. I still get a little misty eyed to this day when I watch it. I definitely believe I like it more than my son.

Because it's animated?

There is tons of animated stuff that is enjoyable by everyone (not just kids).

An there is also tons of animated stuff that is made specifically for adults, and is inappropriate for kids.

Unless your question is rhetorical (in which case, why post?), you appear to be confusing medium with content.

If anything the movie didn't do well because it isn't geared towards kids. Many a parts of the movie are lossed on the pre-teen crowd.

I think it has more adult themes in it than kids can deal with. The whole dealing with death, and all. But then again, Disney did it with Bambi, Dumbo, and the Lion King.

This and Watership Down are two of my all time favorite US animated films. Definitely not just for kids. A wonderful film that was very sadly overlooked when it was in theaters.

it's a mistake to label this as a kids only flick.

For me, this movie doesn't have the same replayability of say a movie like alladin or something else. While watching this movie I did catch myself thinking "geeze I must be too old for this, because i'm not feeling the same charmed feeling I used to get from watching disney movies" for the record I'm 20.

I went to see this movie in the theater with my 5-year-old nephew and my 25 year-old friend named Jason. Towards the end of the movie Jason actually broke down in tears and couldn't stop crying. Those of you have seen this movie know which scene that I am talking about. Let's just suffice it to say that Jason is a huge Superman fan! Needless to say, it's an experience I'll never forget (and the movie was great as well!).

Oh yeah...
About a week later I went over to Jason's house and he had one of those 2' Tall Iron Giant figures sitting on his couch!

Nope not just for kids. My wife and I saw this for the first time without any kids. Love this movie!
