I really llike Spider-Man 2, but...
 

I really enjoyed Spider-Man 2, but what's the deal with the "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head" sequence? I know it was an homage to Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, but how does that pertain to Spider-Man?

I first saw this movie at a test screening where I was told some of the music and special effects were not finished yet. I assumed that "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head" was just put there as a temporary soundtrack filler. It just felt so out of place (IMHO)

If someone know if there was any reason for this song then please let me know.

I actually love that part. Especially the freeze frame at the end.

I loved that scene as well and I commented back when the movie came out. It was so unexpected and so deliriously funny that it just became one of the more perfect scenes in a movie in sometime and a major reason why I can't wait to see the DVD very soon!!

It was one of the many scenes that made this movie good.

I also loved it. The way his head seems to be bobbing to the music right at the start of the scene is so funny to me, in a good way. It added a touch of humor to the movie and belongs there to be left alone. And the freeze at the end...classic stuff. And it didn't belong there?? Poor Peter Parker's life was summed up in that song!

That sequence was probably my favorite in the whole film.

I didn't understand the point of the girl at Peter's apartment. Any takes on the meaning or importance of these scenes?

That and the toy helicoptors flying around at the end... :)

I liked the first movie better; except for the green goblin, which was cheesy...

in fact, i think the musical montage w/ 'Raindrops are falling on my head' works MUCH better in S-m2 than it does in the film it was originally intended for.
to me, this was the epitome of fun filmmaking.

I also loved that scene. To me, the dramatic arc of the movie involved three acts (don't they all): first, Parker's struggling existence as Spider-Man; second, Parker's retreat to being, well, Parker; and in the third act, his balanced coexistence as both Parker and Spider-Man. In this sense, the "happy idiot" sequence, as I like to call it, is an ironic take on the pleasures of Parker's new-found mediocrity.

I of course really like thread titles that are discriptive. But hey - call me wacky.

Someone else explained that before. It was to show that there was still someone who cared for Peter even though everyone around him seemed to have abandoned him.

I enjoyed the scene as well. Lighthearted and humorous.

The Singing in the Rain wasn't my favorite part of the film but I had a real problem with a number of other scenes. On my blog I commented about how they could of trimmed this film up a bit and I would of enjoyed it much much more.

I bought it at midnight at Wal-Mart because I like Doc Ock and the action is good but after watching the movie a second time to see if I was being too rough on it.....I'll probably just watch the action filled chapters from here on out.

My major problem with the film is that a large part of it seemed to be a rehash of the original.

My only beef was the operation scene. Looked like something that belonged in Evil Dead not Spiderman.

I hated the damn New YAWK-ers scene, and I hated it in the original film also on the bridge.

i think that is a loaded statement...the only reason you say that is because Raimi directed both. But, really you can either compare that scene to a million cheesy horror flicks (in a good way) or none at all, but to say that it specifically reminds of "Evil Dead" I think is biased. Actually, because the movies are so technically divided with "Evil Dead" being almost amaturish when compared and "Spider-Man 2" being a technical marvel I don't think you can say that scene belongs anywhere in the remote vicinity of "Evil Dead".

Singing in the Rain isn't in Spider-Man 2 or Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. The song is Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head.

So you're saying Evil Dead should have had Dr. Octopus in it? ;)

funny, at that moment I wanted to reach into the screen and knock Maguire out for looking like such a moronic tool. IMO a lame sequence that should have been handled differently. I also didn't care for yet another New Yawker scene with Parker being carried away in Jesus Christ-pose.

I too love that moment. I agree, it's scenes like this that really made the movie enjoyable, intertwined with the other dramatic/action scenes...

The chainsaw/operation scene was an homage to Evil Dead. Good catch. Made me laugh!
