Assault on Precinct 13 Remake TRAILER is up...Looks cool!

I never saw the original.... i'm sure this one is much different than the original.... Otherwise, why remake it.

Anyway, here is the trailer.

"I should take it as flattery I guess but it only reconfirms what I've said all along – Hollywood has no new ideas left!" you said it john. No Darwin Joston, no sale.

Seantn, if you never saw the original, why comment? Suprisingly, the setup is identical to the original, which itself is copied from Rio Bravo according to Carpenter himself. Yes they changed the attackers from gang members to corrupt cops but that seems to be the trend in movies nowadays and the addition of JaRule and what seemed to be a hip hop single creeping into the trailer near the end started to kill me but the cast otherwise seems to be topnotch. Another excellent remake of 13 is called The Nest that just premiered on DVD, an excellent French movie that kicks ass.

Seantn sounds like all those others that never give a film a chance, at least some others that diss the film will hopefully at least have watched the original.

Harosa.... I said that this film looks good! Did I 'diss' this film at all without seeing the original? If so, please quote it and show me. Look at my subject that I named this thread. I said the trailer looks cool.

I only pointed out that it's different than the original because when this film was announced, a lot of people on this board were up in arms because of plot changes.

Question:

Spoiler:
In the original, a major plot point was that the people trapped inside could not communicate for help. How is the remake going to handle this since the invention of cell phones?

I was wondering the same thing. Not sure how they're going to address this.

Seantn, I didnt mean to sound snippy, but looking at your post I didnt see you say the trailer looked good, missed your header, my bad, but it is a recurring theme in forums and chat rooms, especially geek ones to diss a film before even seeing it. Liquid, from the trailer it looks like the building is in an abandoned area so reception might be spotty and the French remake i mentioned in my post handled it by having the villains knocking out cell phone towers that would pick up any cell phone signals, that might be one solution.

The original was basically a zombie flick with Gang bangers in place of the zombies. They didn't talk, they weren't very bright, no one knew why they were attacking, they just kept coming. By replacing them with an intelligent coordinated swat team. I don't know if it will have the same effect.

Its too easy to say Halloween was Carpenter's best and a fan fav, but I love his AoP13. This has a great cast, but I'm not holding my breathe.

The original had a great synth score, some moody moments, and a cool premise. But I don't consider it flawless. They could potentially make a great remake. I doubt that'll happen, but who knows.

The Carpenter quote is funny, considering his own Ghosts of Mars from a few years back borrows heavily from AoP13.

No Death by Vanilla Swirl or Napolean Wilson... cant be too good.

The original is awesome. I hope they keep the same type of title music.

There is actually another remake (or should I say rip) of Assault out there on video now. I just recently rented a french action film named "The Nest". Despite its uh.. "borrowings", it is actually a very solid well made action movie. I recommend checking it out. It does have a french soundtrack, even though I did not notice it mentioned on the back of the dvd case. I was very surprised how good it turned out to be.
