When is The Machinist going to have a wide release??

Last time I checked it was playing at a whole 3 screens in the entire US

Yes. That's pretty normal. But probably just for a week or two.

More sales = more screens. So you NY and LA people better go see it!

I never thought i'd want to see a movie just because of an actor's skinny ass. Thanks, Christian Bale. :)

I'm highly curious to see this. EW review seemed too negative of BALE's willingness to do what he did, other than if the film was good or not (I'm hearing its sweet).

Awful, awful plot, and terrible performance from Christian Bale (very disappointing, despite him disturbingly looking like a ghoul). But the atmosphere of the film is really excellent. Too bad that the "twist" is just laughable.

I think you're being a little hard on the movie. Yeah, it's a minor film, but it works. And Bale acts appropriately tortured. I gave it a solid B.

I was a little disappointed in the film. It started off very good, but it lost me in the last half hour. The musical score caught me off-gaurd. ( Psycho-ish )

When Bale was hunched over, cleaning the floor ( his vertibrae is damn-near exposed ! ) the audience was in horror.

I give it B-

I agree. I thought the overall tone and feel of the film was pretty consistent. The score was jarring at times but it still fit the bleak narrative and cinematography.

While I didn't think the ending was laughable, I did see it coming. The fun was seeing how it played out.

Bale was good. Not American Psycho good, but still very good. How does one act when they haven't sleep for a year and continually try to cleanse themselves with bleach? Probably a lot like Christian Bale in The Machinist.

It's a movie that will probably reward repeat viewings... and I might go as far to say it's worty of a B+.

Daring, I know.

I'd also say I would have to agree with you. I thought Bale did more than a commendable performance. The style and look of the film was very effective and I for one didn't think the ending fell apart or came across as laughable.

A "B" from me as well.

I'd give it a C- or a C at best.

Was at a screening last week here in NYC and the director showed up afterwards to talk about it. I couldn't even stay for that.

Was it just me or was that score HORRENDOUS???

There's very little to "like" or "enjoy" about this movie IMHO. Although I give Christian props for being able to lose the weight and not end up in a hospital. In the beginning I thought he sounded to "American Psycho" but he got better as it went along.

Still looked at my watch 4 times. :(
