I think we should email the producers and suggest a swashbuckling demon flick in biblical times. Christ vs. The Beast ... on the high seas!!
This would get so much buzz and press that I'm sure it'd do fairly well.

And why does Hank McCoy object to it?

Nah, you're thinking of The Relic. The Beast was about a Russian tank command in Afghanistan.

Now, if we want to get international, there's La Bete... :D

I read PotC as Protection of the Cabbage. If you have any idea what I mean when I say that, you're as big a dork as me, you twink!

I wrote a script titled 'The Beast' it was about a man going back to his hometown to face his 'demons'. Anyway, it was better than this story. :)

necros 10-11-04 08:12 PM

Is this a "real" movie or just some guy with a DV camera and bad actors trying to get publicity for some straight to video gore film?

Trigger 10-11-04 10:24 PM

I was flipping channels yesterday and stopped on this preacher dude who was pretty irate and spouting statistics about homosexuals like how the average life expectancy of a homosexual is 44 years old for a male and like 43 for females... attributing the shortened lifespan mostly to AIDS... now - how two lesbians giving each other AIDS is somehow more likely than a man giving it to a woman or whatever is beyond me, but he went on to spout statistics about how they are hundreds of percents more likely to get involved in beastiality, necrophilia, child pornography, drugs, and whatnot. He was painting a picture about homosexuality that is a complete fabrication not even resembling the truth and preaching it to thousands of "good christians" and cementing it with quotes from the bible.

I'm not even gay and I was pretty horrified that such intolerance and bigotry was allowed on television. It would've prompted me to call my cable provider to tell them I want the channel removed except that I had called before about something similar and offensive about a religious channel and was told simply that they have no control over the content of the channels and if I don't want to watch it I don't have to.

This film - even if it's just some low-budget piece of shit that does manage to get a distributor will catch all sorts of flak from brainwashed religious masses and will probably be squashed. The amount of power and control the church has in this country is scary - how civilized is a society if we still believe in the fire and brimstone fantasy world? Don't get me wrong - I think everyone should have access to their religion of choice and they should have the right to make it a part of their life, but spreading it to others should be outlawed. Let people seek out their own personal truth.

Conceptually, this movie sounds interesting, but I have to agree with Groucho that based on the site it looks like it might end up being low budget crap. It's a few years away yet, so we'll see.

Joe Molotov 10-11-04 10:53 PM

Tele-Evangelists do tend to have some pretty crazy ideas. I remember one time this guy saying that Jesus was a rich man and if you were a faithful Christian you'd be rich too; only sinners are poor. All of which, of course, is a load of horse manure. So, I wouldn't judge religion based solely on the most extreme elements of it.

But what do you mean spreading it others should be outlawed? If you mean what I think you mean, isn't that kind of 1st Amendmently protected? You could just as easily say that everyone needs to figure out their own political stance, and that films like Fahrenheit 9/11 should be outlawed.

Trigger 10-11-04 11:31 PM

Well, I don't know - brainwashing should be outlawed or at least there should be equal time for all brainwashing. There's no satanist channels or hindu or buddhist or whatever as far as I know. not here anyway.

As for judging religion - as I said, I support people exploring their own faiths. However, my judgement of them is going to be of their extremes because that's how this world operates. We look at columbine and ask why and then we see these kids were into marylin manson and violent video games so people lobby against those things when this is a relatively isolated and extreme event. At the same time, I can see catholic priests molesting children (far more widespread than school shootings) and preachings of anti-gay and anti-poor and perhaps even anti-minority and judge the religion they spawned from by those examples. It's all fair. I mean - that's even how we look at political parties we aren't affiliated with.

BizRodian 10-11-04 11:51 PM

This reminds me of all those crappy anti Michael Moore films that normally went after a totally different subject than Moore's film (Either focusing on bashing Moore, or saying "American is great!" as if that had anything to do with... anything.) It will be forgotten just as easily, unless it does turn into something with an actual plot. Right now it just seems to be out there to ride the sucess of another film, while pretending to be "a direct slap in the face" to it, when it is really anything but.

UAIOE 10-12-04 01:39 AM

SWEET! Beast is getting his own movie? I thought Wolverine was going to get a solo movie first.

::reads thread::

oh, bummer. :(

custom001 10-12-04 05:02 AM

Is this for real?

al_bundy 12-01-04 12:11 PM

lucky for me i just clicked on a banner ad to see the trailer

so the premise is that all these people in the church know that christianity is fake, but no one ever talks? is this the same deal where every organization is evil and monolithic in it's own way and no one becomes a whistle blower?

i predict that this movie will break even through dvd sales, if it's lucky.

Jason 12-01-04 06:57 PM

"The cast has been sworn to secrecy"

Yeah right, like anybody'd know who they were anyhow.

Matthew Chmiel 12-01-04 08:00 PM

HAHAHAHAHAHA.

I liked it better when the film was in pre-production TEN FUCKING YEARS AGO and was called The Sky Is Falling. Hell, at least that film's premise was decent.

al_bundy 12-01-04 09:17 PM

is there going to be a devil or satan figure in the movie, or are they trying to rip off Passion's popularity?

I bet this one won't get a 3-disc deluxe special edition. :D

Dudikoff 12-02-04 12:32 AM

Is this a conspiracy movie or a horror movie? It's called "The Beast" for whatever reason, talks about being afraid, and has references to 666, the numeralogical representation of the devil. It won't come out in the theatres, and probably never even on DVD. Also, it probably has Dolph Lundgren in it or Don the Dragon Wilson.

Tarantino 12-02-04 01:00 AM

That guy got...banned. Ha.

Now we're sworn to secrecy about him never exisiting.

There's movie called The Beast that came out in the late 80s, the DVD was a couple of years ago and I seem to recall it generate some discussion (esp considering it's about a Russian tank crew fighting in Afghanistan).
