Ive been wondering this for a while, is this a sequel that many are anticipating? I saw the first one and it wasnt bad, but this thread has been around forever anticipating this movie. Was the first one a hit? I guess I just feel like I'm missing out on something.

RocShemp 01-14-06 07:27 PM

Really like that poster but am not watching those clips as I want to be as spoiler free as possible. I know the basics and that's enough for me.

It made around $50 million theatrically (on a $25 million budget) and another $50 million (plus) on video.

That poster is hot (being said from a very straight woman).

I'll say.

I'm glad to read a positive review, as I've been looking forward to this film for a while now. Although I don't like the comparison with Blade 2 because I thought that totally blew. I hope there's more Michael in it than has been suggested in the trailers.

And hopefully Kraven is kept to a bare minimum, as he ruined every scene in the first one with his horrendous "acting".

“Evolution” is to the first picture what “Blade 2” was to its franchise. It manages to pick up and run with every single cool idea and story concept that the first had, and amplify them to become a follow-up that blows the original completely out of the water. Enjoying a film more than the first just because the original was mediocre would be one thing, but “Evolution” is not only a far superior movie than the original, it is a superior movie in its genre, with action sequences surpassing even those witnessed in the “Matrix” trilogy.

Seriously...could it be all that.

This dude has been pimping his review around the net lately. I'm not convinced he even saw the film.

It sound like he read the book and just made up his review.

I haven't read ANY spoilers or reviews but I know one thing...If I don't see some Selena/Lycan alliances based on the ending of UW1 I'll be bummed out.

Just saw one of those free screenings of this one. It is much better than the first one, though I didn't think much of the first one initially so take that FWIW. This one does deliver in the areas where the first one didn't, particularly in the area of creature vs. creature action. The FX for the Lycans was much improved, and I am glad they didn't take the CGI approach on them for the most part. In short, this one is more of a straight out creature feature with lots of unique action where the first one was more of something that was trying to gain footing and perhaps the success to get a bigger budgeted sequel. However, I would still just rate it three stars at best, and I didn't pay to see it either.
My main gripe: Scott Speedman leaves much to be desired as an actor. He makes Paul Walker look like Paul Newman. His lines all seemed forced.
I recommend watching the first one before you see this, as it picks up immediately after its predecessor. It had been over a year since I last saw the first one, so I knew enough, but probably didn't get as much as I would have had it been fresh in my mind.

Nope, it isn't. That statement is utter B.S. IMO.

This at least gives hope. My main problem with the first was that it had this great idea which it presented right away in the trailer, but in the movie, it did little with the idea. It had some nice action, but leaving the theater I felt a little empty.

If this one can deliver a little more on the idea, I'd be happy. Short of that review that slobbered over the movie, most, including you Dr. are saying that it improves upon the original, so I'll be checking it out.

Legolas 01-20-06 03:37 AM

I liked the first movie, even though it was pretty empty in execution and had a lot of great ideas it never followed through on. Looks like the sequel isn't going to be screened for critics. In the most rare of instances, you'll get a Tombstone, but for the most part it's Alien vs. Predator, From Justin To Kelly, Bloodrayne, Grandma's Boy, The Fog and Cursed.

fryinpan1 01-20-06 05:44 AM

I think most critics will hate this movie, but hopefully the fans will go see it and like it.

Also, here is a new Kate Beckinsale interview:
