But the sneakly little asshole doesn't mention that he is submitting it for Best Picture! (only documentaries can't be shown on TV) Talk about not leveling with the public!

Why don't you actually read Moore's post?

(in fact, they then offered to submit our film for all the other categories it is eligible for, including Best Picture -- so, hey, who knows, maybe I'll get to complete that Oscar speech from 2003! Sorry, just kidding).

What a dick! Listen to this: So many documentaries such as the gonzo fast-food satire "Super Size Me" and the sober look at Arab television news in "Control Room" have made the rounds in theaters recently that Moore, who won the best documentary Oscar for "Bowling for Columbine," said he wanted to give others a chance.

As if I needed another reason to hate this guy.

Arrogant as it may be, he was right. SuperSize Me probably does deserve an award, and will likely get one now, but did it really stand a chance?

According to rottentomatoes.com:
Fahrenheit 9/11 - 84% Fresh
Super Size Me - 92% Fresh

I don't think the Academy is gonna give Moore another award anyway, but we'll see. I can easily see Fahrenheit 9/11 and Passion of the Christ up for Best Picture and the arguments will begin.

Ever wonder what happened about the headlines he faked from the Pentagraph? Why isn't there anything on his Web site about that?

"The time for unnecessary bashing of Michael Moore that is in all way shape or form irrelevant to the topic at hand... she comes..."

I think its relevant, because if Moore had put it up for Best Documentary, the blatant fabrications from the Pentagraph I'm sure would have come up and been used against him (rightfully so).

And Rotten Tomatoes has "Spider-man 2" at 93% fresh. So what? Rotten Tomatoes has no bearing on awards.

That's Pantagraph. I think a Pentagraph is a five-sided newspaper.

"Pantagraph" sounds like a picture of some trousers.

It always cracks me up when "okay" movies put out press releases about "going for Best Picture". f9/11 and twins effect 2 come to mind for this year's race.

Popular? sure
Good (as films themselves)? not particularly.

When 9/11 goes up against Passion of the Christ for Best Picture next year, what interesting threads we can look forward to in these forums.

I read this weekend's Parade magazine, which speculated that the liberal-friendly* Oscar nominating committees would likely give F911 three or four nominations, including Best Picture. Ironic, in that Parade was included in this weekend's Washington Post. I wonder if the Post was aware that there was some non-conforming, non-liberal commentary included in their paper?

*(or, if you prefer, liberal-infested)

So the big question is: Are docu-spin-taries like Farenheit 9/11 and Supersize This doing more to help or to hurt the documentary category as a whole? Personally, I feel that they are bringing them to the forefront in the same fashion that Jerry Springer and Geraldo Rivera "launched" the whole day time talk show genre. (And that is not good.)

I like Michael Moore's message (most of the time) but his tactics have of late eroded his credibility. I believe he is becoming the beast that he fought against for so long . . .

Perhaps Morgan Spurlock will be nominated for "Best Actor" as well? Or will "Supersize Me" be relegated as a training video for researchers everywhere, showing them how to skew the results of your study?

If it was a fair contest, Control Room would win the best doc. this year. But we all know what kind of world we live in...
