Miyazaki's Howl's Moving Castle

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...e_animation_dc

Japanese Animator Casts Spell Over Venice Fest

Marco Muller, director of the Venice Film Festival, called "Howl's Moving Castle" "possibly the strongest anti-war statement we have in the entire festival."

Security was tight against counterfeiters with purses checked for cameras and computers at the opening on the Lido, where the film was cheered by critics and the public.

I don't know why that freaked me out so much. I can totally contain my pain most of the time, but joy makes me weep and tingle like crazy. Endorphins are tricky little buggers.

I can't wait.

I wish I could see it - but I guess it will be a while before we can see it in the U.S...

Looks good and I'm looking forward to another Miyazaki masterpiece.
*Rant*I wonder how Kimtaku (member of SMAP--Think Japanese boy band that won't go away) got a voice part in this and another part in Wong Kar Wai's 2046. Bad enough I had to see SMAP on TV every waking moment................

Yeah, seriously. Did he make a deal with the devil or something??

Anyway, I'm looking very forward to seeing this film.

This indeed does look very good. I thought Spirited Away had such a wonderful design and lush animation and overall a great movie. Castle's trailer is really terrific, I wish American animated films would have this power and energy in their trailers, where there is little dialogue, just stunning animation and backed up with a excellent score.

so I would assume Disney/Miramax is gonna release this, has anyone heard a time frame of a release? I would assume it will more than likely be in Spring/early Summer 2005.

Miyazaki put anime -- Japanese animated cartoon -- on the world entertainment map with "Spirited Away," which won accolades at festivals and an Oscar in 2003.

Didn't AKIRA "put anime on -- Japanese animated cartoon -- on the world enterainment map" back in the late 80's???

I'm doubt that Disney will put a specific date on it until their sure. The don't have anything shown on their website's release calendar past March 2005.

That being said, with Nausicaa Of The Valley Of The Wind, Porco Rosso, and The Cat Returns coming out on Feb. 22, hopefully they'll be freed up to focus on this and other Ghibli titles.

Edit: According to a thread on UltimateDisney.com (http://www.ultimatedisney.com/forum/...ghlight=ghibli), it'll be in theaters in June. Who knows when that means the DVD will be released.

Although Miyazaki doesn't need any celebrity to lend his voice to his masterpieces, I actually think it was his idea to bring Takimura onboard.

Man, that guy's face is almost everywhere in Tokyo (same with Aya Ueto's). My Japanese friends totally despise him due to his insistent on looking and acting "cool" all the time. I think it's just sheer envy.

By the way, I think his performance in 2046 was exceptional (especially seeing his heartbreaking expression of courting Faye Wong and getting dejected).

June 10th! Finally it arrives in USA. Question though just how limited is it going to be? I'm hoping its something I can see in milwaukee vs having tell my sister we driving down to chicago to see "anime" flick.

This has already been released in Singapore. I've seen it and am actually quite disappointed with it. I felt that the characters and the plot were too thin.

The screening at the Seattle International Film Festival is subtitled (already sold out, tho'). I haven't seen any other mentions of subtitled prints elsewhere.

Probably dubbed by a Disney picked cast, with limited screenings of the subtitled print, like with SPIRITED AWAY.

It's being dubbed. There's already a trailer for the dubbed release at the film's US website:

http://disney.go.com/disneypictures/castle/

Unfortunately, from the trailer the dub sounds more like "Mononoke" quality rather than "Spirited Away" quality.

I don't know if Disney will release a subtitled release as well, although it's possible.
