The Weekend Box Office Thread for Labor Day Weekend 2004
Here are Friday's numbers, taken from www.boxofficemojo.com
Everything is REALLY Close and REALLY low.
Except HERO, which - while dropping 64% from Last Friday, still has about the biggest gap on the entire list.
Nice to see Collateral and Bourne Supremacy still raking in the cash.
Oh, and on a side note... I can't believe people actually paid to see Paparazzi.

Talk about emptiplexes .... Hero will probably head the Fri-Sun chart with less than 8M, a take that on some weekends wouldn't even get you in the top 10.

never. It's a dumping ground for a reason. It signals the end of summer and because of that people do not want to be at a theater, they would rather be at the beach, the park, enjoying it.
wow, simply terrible weekend numbers.

Updated with Weekend Estimates.
It's really nice to see movies that would be considered "arthouse" normally (Hero, Napoleon, and Garden State) pulling their weight. Apparently Garden State's soundtrack is doing phenomenally well on top of that.
Also, quite surprising that Hero only dropped 51.1%, for some reason I figured it would be a bit steeper than that.

Updated with 4 day estimates.
The % change always came off as irrelavent (counting 4 days (3 days + holiday) change vs. the previous weekend (3 days).) but it's there just the same.
Without a Paddle is holding up incredibly strong.

Without A Paddle has a "strong" teen girl following due to the actors in the movie. So it's not totally surprising to see it doing well.

The theaters aren't actually that empty on Labor Day weekend; Sunday night and Monday morning are extremely busy, usually. Those times probably account for most of the movies' take this weekend. Labor weekend people go to theaters and most of the time don't even know what they'll watch; this probably explains the increases on some older films. Some are just watching anything, others are catching up on what they missed.

It's great to see Collateral hang in there, hopefully it will make it to 100 million. Garden State keeps moving along too, and hopefully word of mouth will continue to spread for that film.
