Wow. IMO, I would consider those some of the worst films I've seen this (and last) year.

Are you a big "F**k the mainstream" guy? Or are you just putting on airs for the forum? I'm honestly curious.

Then you people best stop voting for the wrong movie and vote for Garden State.

Well, I guess I appreciate you asking the question rather than jumping to a conclusion.

I culled that top 20 from my ongoing list of films seen in theaters this year.

http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...hreadid=337392

Now, from that list, one can assume I have a gripe with the mainstream. But let me qualify the list by saying that only the 2 films at the bottom I actively disliked. Everything above at least has some redeeming aspect that made the trip worthwhile.

So off that list I thoroughly enjoyed and would recommend these "mainstream" products: The Clearing, Touching the Void, Spartan, The Bourne Supremacy, Collateral, Baadasssss!, Spider-man 2, I, Robot, Open Water, Troy, Garden State, Hellboy, The Village, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Kill Bill Vol. 2, Cold Mountain, The Stepford Wives and Broken Lizard's Club Dread.

As much as I enjoyed these pictures I enjoyed others more. I like to see as much as possible and have that as varied as possible. Hollywood is a viable and important film producer, considering its influence across the globe. I can't afford to dismiss it because of my own likes or dislikes.

How is Collateral not on the list?

It isn't the best but I'll vote other just because it is not even on the list.

GS was good as well.

Garden State. Best movie I've seen so far this year.

To rank the films I've watched and liked from May-Aug:

Garden State
Collateral
Spider-man 2
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
The Bourne Supremacy

I have an idea. Let's use this thread to come up with a better list of 9 movies and then have a new poll. How about the following for a poll...

May - August 2004 major releases:
1. Before Sunset
2. The Bourne Supremacy
3. Collateral
4. Garden State
5. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
6. Hero
7. Open Water
8. Shrek 2
9. Spider-Man 2
10. other

Left off because they were released wide before May:
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (opened in March)
Kill Bill Vol. 2 (opened in April)

The Baby Geniuses is the Twikoff option which is mandatory in all polls. See the other forum for complete rules.

My vote is for Spider-Man 2 and Collateral.

In terms of best time at a movie, it's without a doubt Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle.....the funniest movie that I've seen in a long time

Yup, hilarious movie. But besides that, I've hardly gone to the theater this summer. I've had very little time. I heard Collateral was really good though, should be on here.
