Question about the Jaws and King Kong (1976) posters

They're excellent images, but the creatures on the posters do not resemble the creatures presented in the movie. Both the shark and the gorilla are 2x larger on the poster.

With the King Kong poster, you have the gorilla on top of the World Trade Center. One leg on one tower, and the other leg on the other tower, and the scene on the poster is in the daytime when, in the movie, he climbed the towers at night.

So, I could explain to my nephew or my son that the posters were created as images to enhance the pictures, but not as scenes from the pictures? That sound right?

Or you could just tell your kid that advertisements lie.

Hey, posting some pics of the actual posters would help others on this thread.

How many movie posters are acurate representations of scenes from the movie? Not very many that I can think of. Your son is probably more likely to ask if this movie contains large floating heads as to ask why King Kong looks bigger on the poster.

The KING KONG poster is better than the movie.
The JAWS poster lives up to the movie.

A poster of Rick Baker in a kinda cheesy gorilla suit really wouldn't have put asses in seats. On the other hand, the KING KONG one sheet is a great painting. (but there is no way the movie could have lived up to that. I know that I was a disappointed kid back in 1976)

You know we're talking about the remake, right? Or was this an attempt at a generic "angry poster" type post?

Just explain to your son that films are made by filmmakers, but are advertised by ad-men, who may or may not have actually seen the film in question.

I think you could tell a child that the posters are just ways to tell a story about what the movie is. With Jaws, it is about a big shark who eats people, and the shark is just bigger to make it scarier. Similar with King Kong, but its easier to see a black ape in the daylight.

Seemed accurate to me:

With Jaws you wanted to see the movie 2 more times.

With King Kong '76 you just wanted to leave the theater twice as fast.

Imagine how one must have felt seeing that poster and thinking wow this movie is gonna be cool!
The sountrack was real good by John Barry and you got a sneek peek at Jessica Lange in the nude & her boobies.

I always wondered what that was in Kong's hand? Is it a plane?

Subway cars. There's a variation of the poster where's he's holding what appears to be a giant jet.

the more important question is, why is this man's head bigger than a building?

Actually it's the size of the towers that seems wrong
in scale next to Kong, the girl, the planes, etc.

Now this is truth in advertising:

The U.S. one sheet for GODZILLA VS. MEGALON shows each monster standing on top of one of the Twin Towers!

Obviously nothing even close to that happens in the movie.
