One of the rules of Hollywood business reality is this: a film franchise need not end even when the trilogy is complete. That seems to be happening with Universal's AMERICAN PIE comedy series; even after last summer's AMERICAN WEDDING brought a fitting conclusion to the sexual misadventures of Jim Levinstein (Jason Biggs) and his group of guy pals, it looks as if there's been quiet development on the part of the studio to continue on the movie series by using the younger sibling of Steve Stifler (Sean William Scott's character) as the main character for AMERICAN PIE 4.

We were contacted by a reader that's in line for an audition for one of the roles in AP4. With casting reads set to begin shortly, the film's script is being handed out to give to prospective actors to try out for the parts in the film. Our anonymous scooper filed this report with us (here be SPOILERS):

"All the original characters have moved on, except there will be a cameo by Finch. Stifler's little brother Matt, wants to join his brother's business (Stifler has hit it big producing Girls Gone Wild videos) and after everything Matt has heard from Jim's bandgeek wife Michelle, he plans to go back to band camp and make a video of his own.... Bandies Gone Wild."

While Universal hasn't announced any plans for AMERICAN PIE 4, the FilmJerk website was the first to report about the plans to fashion a sequel and set it at the band camp made infamous by Alyson Hannigan's character in the first three films. FilmJerk also uncovered the name of the writer (Brad Riddell) and director (Steve Rash) and also heard that the plan is to get filming started sometime next month. If that's still the case official casting announcements should be heard shortly for AMERICAN PIE 4.

While i loved the first 3, i dont think a 4th should be made that has very little to do with the original characters.

The story I heard is that it will involve Stiffler's brother getting in so much trouble at school that his parents and/or the school make him sign up for band camp over the summer. The common thread between the rumor I heard and this rumor seems to be "Stiffler's brother goes to band camp."

I thought the first movie was great and the second one was kind of mediocre (not good, but not outright lame, either). I still haven't seen the third one, though I keep meaning to snag it off HBO or Showtime.

"American Wedding" was already a slap in the face to the franchise. This is like having an undisclosed spawn of Neo and Trinity and resurrecting a 4th in the Matrix franchise, well maybe not quite...

I liked all 3 but you can't have American Pie without Stifler.

It...was? Why? It was funnier than American Pie 2, and made a fitting end to the series, and Biggs' character in particular.

It's not really an American Pie sequel, but still not a great sounding idea

I don't get it. How can they have an American Pie 4 when there was no American Pie 3? There were two American Pie movies then there was a movie with many of the actors from the first two American Pie movies who made American Wedding. American Pie 3 was not a movie that was ever made. "American Pie 3" may have been added to the title by video stores so they could alter the title of the movie to put it alphabetically next to the two American Pie movies, but there is no mention of the American Pie 3 on the DVD cover art or on the disc itself.

Is this...a joke? Or are you seriously trying to imply that because American Wedding wasn't called American Pie 3 that it's not actually part of the series?
