Re: Worst Michael Bay movie
The Rock is awesome!
I was going to add it to my list in the “What movies do you watch at least once a year” thread but didn’t think I watched it quite that much. Close though.
The shower shootout is without a doubt the best sequence Bay has ever directed and it rivals the emotional intensity of just about any scene in any action movie!

While Bad Boys will always been my favorite (it's lean and mean), The Rock is where it all came together. And then from Con Air on it went too far. He got it JUST RIGHT for The Rock.

^ Bay didn’t direct Con Air.
Maybe you’re thinking of Armageddon. It came out around the same time and marked when Bay started playing a little too fast and loose with action movie rules.

You're kidding, right? (You are, kidding, I hope. If not, well, kudos for standing up for an unpopular opinion!)
The Rock is garbage. So much talent in front of the camera, but it's totally wasted on a lousy script and hack direction. I really wanted to like the movie (because of Sean Connery and Ed Harris), but it's crap. IMNSHO.

Correct. The Rock was one of the prime action films from that 10 year era. And easily defendable as the best. For me, it is Die Hard 3.
Film has changed and I never felt the same experience. Now that it’s history, it is interesting to see how short that era really was.

Re: Worst Michael Bay movie
That's really a good question. I'd say The Matrix is a better action movie, but since it's better because of the scifi elements, The Rock is probably the best action movie based in "reality".

That’s just straight-up Action movies. Not sci-fi, war, etc. if you remove some of those genre parameters, people would argue all day over the MCU movies.
One that came out after The Rock but that I still have in my Top 5 as well is the underrated George Clooney/Nicole Kidman action movie, The Peacemaker.
Maybe this should go in the Unpopular Movie Opinion thread but I never much cared for Face/Off. It is just too silly for me. I prefer Woo’s other flick that came out a little earlier, Broken Arrow with Travolta and Christian Slater.

You are damn right this should go in the unpopular movie opinion thread. And come on, while the Rock might not have guys switching faces, it is every bit as silly as Face/Off. (And for the record, I love both movies.)

Armageddon and all of his transformers are trash. 6 Underground is unwatchable. I think the bombing of Pearl Harbor on the R rated cut on DVD is phenomenal, but the rest of that film is also rubbish. The Ambulance sucked.
Bad Boys
The Rock
Bad Boys II
The Island
Pain and Gain
13 Hours
Those I like.

There's currently *one* of his movies I've enjoyed enough to watch again - that's The Island. I've not seen Bad Boys, Bad Boys II, or The Rock, though after watching a few trailers those sound interesting enough to watch.
I *have* seen Armageddon (laughable - incredibly bad), half of one of the Transformers movies (and won't bother with it again or any other in that series), and Pearl Harbor (also quite bad). Since Armageddon is the first thing of his I recall seeing and laughed almost the entire way through at the "science" and ludicrousness of it all I'll pick it as the worst. Its sole redeeming factor is a passable Aerosmith ballad for the theme song.

Just throwing my vote in here for 6 UNDERGROUND, and I also thought his TRANSFORMERS movies got more obnoxious and irritating as they went along, but I could at least see what made them theater-worthy. On 6 UNDERGROUND, I think Netflix gave him (and so many others back then) too much "creative freedom" and the result was a badly-plotted mess that would've been better with some oversight.
Oh, and agreed on PEACEMAKER.

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen it but didn’t Face/Off also have that ridiculous magnetic boot prison? Come on, that’s way goofier than anything in The Rock, not even counting the absurdity of the face switching nonsense on two dudes who have polar opposite facial structure.
I’m not ashamed of my love for Broken Arrow (or Samantha Mathis!

I don't know if I answered back when this thread was first made, but my answer would still be Pearl Harbor.

6 Underground is Bay's worst movie and Transformers movies get worse with every entry. What I do like, although every body hates it, is Pearl Harbor in the director's cut. Of course it's stupid to make it a Titanic like story, but, I still enjoy it and Hans Zimmer's score is fantastic.

The score for Pearl Harbor is pretty great. Yeah, the movie gets really bogged down with the love triangle stuff but the Pearl Harbor attack is fantastic.

I voted for Pearl Harbor... and I love this quote by Roger Ebert:
Pearl Harbor is a two-hour movie squeezed into three hours, about how on December 7, 1941, the Japanese staged a surprise attack on an American love triangle. Its centerpiece is 40 minutes of redundant special effects, surrounded by a love story of stunning banality. The film has been directed without grace, vision, or originality, and although you may walk out quoting lines of dialog, it will not be because you admire them.

^ Ebert was obviously wrong in that review…
…there’s not a single line of dialogue I remember well enough to bother quoting.
