No other movie that I have seen has come close to that. Aliens is a good action flick. |

Aliens, man.
It's mostly a more entertaining film...mostly. |
Originally posted by Giantrobo I agree with all you said. Even the line about Event Horizon. :smacks Giantrobo upside the head: |
Originally posted by Rivero You're certainly right, Aliens loses points for this. Bill Paxton's ridiculously machismo 80's acting dates the movie more than even Paul Reiser's blowdried haircut. Ridley Scott would have laughed Paxton out of the audition room before even thinking of shooting an inch of film with him. Sorry Hudson fans. |

Originally posted by Lara Means That new added scene to the Special Edition where Hudson goes on and on like a complete jackass, "I am the ultimate badass", just made me wish he was the very first marine who died a horrible and painful death. Anyway, while I think both are great films, I think Alien is the better of the two. Edit: These two films have the same effect the first two Rambo films had for me. When I was a kid, I much preferred Rambo: First Blood Part 2 over First Blood just as I preferred Aliens over Alien. As I grew older I learned to appreciate the first films in each series moreso than the second. Rambo kicks a whole lot of ass, but First Blood is the better film. Similarly, Aliens kicks a whole lot of ass, but Alien is the better film. |
Aliens all the way.

Both are great, but IMO, Aliens is better.
"We're in the pipe, five by five." |
Like both, but this is an easy choice...
Aliens |
Aliens ahead in the poll, but Alien gets the more enthusiastic/descriptive posts.
Hmmmmm (I went with Aliens as well...but that's like saying do you like your right or left hand more!) |
Comparing apples and oranges . . . but, have to go with Alien.
Just remember, in space nobody can hear you scream . . . |
Aliens
It has its flaws, but all I know is I much prefer watching the sequel over the original. And to get even more specific, I always select the theatrical cut. |

I think Alien is a masterpiece of sci-fi horror.
I think Aliens is mind-numbing, turgid piece of shit. 'Nuff said? |
Originally posted by Rivero She was joking about Event Horizon. I guess that officially makes you the first. :smacks Giantrobo upside the head: :p I don't care. I liked EH. |
Aliens by a bit. I actually saw Aliens before seeing Alien so this might have made me like it better. I saw Aliens opening night :)
It was a great movie then and still is today. |
Aliens just took it to a completely different level.
Aliens wins in my book, hands down. |
Alien all the way....
Both are different types of film...one is a Si Fi/Horror the other action/adventure. One is a great piece of film making the other a good popcorn movie. Alien wins because like a Hitchcock film it left it to your imagination....the other was just sorta out there(in your face) with some comedy thrown in. |
Alien. That said, this is like Sophie's choice for most movie geeks.

Aliens, but they are neck and neck. I give it the nudge because it has more sentimental value to me (one of the first movies I remember seeing as a child.)
|
Frankly, with such a landmark film like Alien, you got to give a lot of credit to Cameron for following with such a truly successful film. I mean, hands down, Aliens has to be on of the best action films EVER made. It's also one of the best sequels ever made.
For completely blowing me away when I first saw it, vs the slow-paced nature of Alien, which I saw afterwards, I pick ALIENS all the way. Speaking of sequels, it's funny that there's a scene in Aliens where the marines have to give up their guns and one of them asks, "what are we supposed to use, bad language?" Well, I think the creators of Alien 3 took that a little too seriously.... |
I'll go with Alien. The mood, pacing, and feel of the film is absolutely perfect. Watching the docs on the dvds even makes me appreciate it more. The Giger creature and set designs are pure genius (for some reason, I'm completely fascinated with the backstory of the Space Jocky and the Aliens, yet I don't it to be reaveled in a film - it's the mystery of it that intrigues me). Don't get me wrong, I love Aliens...the queen, the face hugger in the locked room scene, when the "walls come alive", hell, I've even warmed to Newt over the years. And you have to respect any film that is homaged/parodied in both Family Guy and Sealab 2021 (Game over, man...game over), but, to me, it's Alien all the way.
