What is the Hollywood Stock Exchange?
From the website: “Buy shares of your favorite actors and their new movies. Watch their values rise or fall based on their success. Prices soar with a blockbuster opening at the box office and plummet with a bomb no one went to see.” For those who have never played, the game is as a complicated or as easy as you want to make it (much like the real stock market).
Now, I know several of you already have HSX accounts. To keep things fair, in order to participate in the league you’ll need to start up a new account. Here’s what you need to do to join the league:
1. Go to www.hsx.com and start up a new account.
2. You can use any username you want, although if everybody used the format “DVDTalk_[DVDTalk Username]” it would make things easier to track. For example, if my DVDTalk username was "Stockbroker" my account for the league will be DVDTalk_Stockbroker.
When signing up, put down BadlyDrawnBoy in the "Did a friend refer you?" column. Feel free to take advantage of any of the special offers and freebies offered at this time as well.
3. After you sign up, go to “Account Information” and set your “Screen Name” to be exactly the same as your screen name here at DVDTalk. This will help avoid confusion.
4. Come back here and post your HSX user name. You need to have a new account, or I won’t add you to the league.
5. Entry into the league is always open...we welcome newcomers!
Remember, new players: add this week's "Bottom Feeder" (BadlyDrawnBoy) as your referral when signing up!

I pissed a bunch of money away thinking AVSP was at the bottom and it dropped a bunch so I just bailed on it. I took my large loss and decided to move on.

with a projected 35 million call that is going up I'm sure that people will pick it up once hault is lifted.

Reset is a great way to make or lose millions
Hey Jack you were right
I hate it when a stock drops over 3.5 points in a few seconds

I really wonder how many of us are still playing. It seems like only a few people are still posting in these threads. More power to us I guess.
Also, c'mon Collateral kick some major ass this weekend!
EDIT: to add I'm up to 81 with DVDTalk_nohomer.

I tried following the trends. Usually during the commissh free time zone, next weeks openers really start kicking some ass. Folks jumping on the next week title early.
Still leaves me at 500k in the red for AvsP..
and you were right about close. it's already run it's course for the time being. with a release date that far away it will need a lot more promoting that Garden state run off can't keep up. oh well. time to dump it.

I am sure a few have stopped playing since this can take a bunch of time to play and make money at it.
I know I spend far too much time trying to make money.
It is a tough game to play.

I think this will adjust up from 10-20 points or even more although it should drop some after that on the post adjust.
Of course I am horrible at guessing weekends.

I thought the same thing you did with Collateral. I bought it at around $89 on Thursday, and expected it to go up as the halt approached at 9pm Friday. Since there is absolutely no other movie for people to see this weekend, I was sure it would do a fair amount and adjust upwards quite a bit. By 8:58pm last night when the stock was down to $84, I just ate my 7% loss and sold.
Wasn't worth gambling with Collateral considering how sketchy people seem to be regarding it's draw this weekend. Then I'll probably see the Friday numbers later today and it'll be headed for a $45+ mil weekend... Since Shrek 4 last week, luck just hasn't been on my side.

True, Village is going to plummet to the ground. What made my decision to jump into the minority was based on a combination of people opting to save for AvsP next week, Manchurian Canadiate having legs, and what I feel is a pretty sup-par advertising/trailer strategy.
If Minority Report, a Tom Cruise mid-summer movie with video games and promotion out the a could only scrounge $35 opening, what will a movie like this with a comedy actor trying legs out in drama do? ABout $25 I'm banking.

I haven't been around these boards much - crosscountry move/vacation among other things will keep me busy for at least another month.
I'm still trying to play the game though - I guess I must have done something right since I topped the "performers" list this week. I just got lucky shorting HKGWC. Lets see if my luck continues - I shorted LBLBK this week and stayed away from COLAT.
I'm glad BWSH2 is finally starting to get to where it should be - it's tying up a chunk of cash but since the price is still about $7 less than the value I suppose I should hang on to it a bit longer.
I need to think about what I want to do when the commission free period kicks in today.

Looks like both COLAT and LBLBK are shorting it this weekend.
Triple S is right again on the adjust gamble.
Just between you and me what do you think of AVSP
