Bugsy: Was It Overated??
Just picked up Bugsy (Warren Beatty, Annette Benning) dvd fm Virgin Megastore since it was freakin' cheap at $8.00.
I remember liking the movie because Barry Levinson did a great job with the look of the film plus I have always been fascinated by gangsters such as Lucky Luciano, Meyer Lansky, etc. (Gangsters starring Christian Slater don't count...I thought that was a dumb movie). I also recall everyone predicting the film at that time of its release to be a shoo-in for Best Picture (of which Silence of the Lambs won). Did anyone else like the movie? |
I didn't like it, but I remember it being popular.

A few more good gangster films:
The Asphalt Jungle The Sting Once Upon A Time In America |
Eh, it was all right. But it was more of a love letter from Warren Beatty to himself than a good gangster movie, or a good comedy, or a good movie about Vegas.

I loved it. And think it's one of Levinson's best films.

A good Movie (rating of 6.5 on a scale of 10). But I believe Casino and Goodfellas are much much better based on a true story Mob Movies

I remember going to see this just a day or so before the Academy Awards, because it was the only major nominee that I hadn't seen yet, and I walked out of the theater wondering why it was so widely praised and popular. Very decent movie, but nothing extraordinary in any way.

I think it was as well. I haven't seen it in years but when it did land on cable the only things I particularly liked was when Henry Thomas got thrown through the window and Annette Benning was 'bugging' out. That gave me the LOL.

Massively.
Overrated, that is. |
I didn't find it all that great, though I was only 15 when I saw it. I think that it has merit, but it was by no means great.
