For me, if I'm sad, I dwell on the emotion and watch a very sad movie as long as the movie's problem isn't the same as mine.
I agree, i generally go towards Schindler's List, Life is Beautiful, or one of the 9/11 docs.

Requiem for a Dream

That movie ALWAYS puts me in a depressed mood. One of the most realistic "horror" movies I have ever seen. The horror of the movie is that it's reality for alot of people.

When you're depressed, the last think you WANT is to be cheered up in some traditional way.

I always pop in Blade Runner or Alien3.

Charlie Chaplin always cheers me up when I am depressed

If I want to sink deeper into the abyss, Ill go for something along the lines of

Dazed and Confused(makes me long for the good old days)
American Beauty(makes me feel like thats where my life is headed)
Chasing Amy

usually Ill just find some sad stuff on TV and watch that.

My fav was always Platoon because it reminded me no matter how bad my problems were they are trivial in comparison to what some people have had to face.

This thread has gone horribly wrong somewhere... Before anyone starts mentioning Kill Bill, as usual, if they don't have already, let me just say:

Girl Crazy (1943) (not yet on DVD)
Good News (1949)

Max's story makes me sad, but then at the end, I feel happier.

Whenever I'm feeling sorry for myself...

Joe vs. the Volcano

...does the trick for me.
