Worst movies since 97, by year.

Bored at work, I thought I would waste some time by looking over box office mojo for the yearly earnings list. While doing so, I thought I would further amuse myself by writing down what the worst movies I have seen over the last few years are. These are what I consider to be the worst of the worst. I'm sure there are some other crappy ones, but this list only has movies I actually saw. Anyone else?

2004 - Anchorman, Hellboy, White Chicks

2003 - Paycheck, Underworld, Timeline, A Mighty Wind, MAtrix Revolutions

2002 - Big Fat Greek Wedding, Blade 2, Reign Of Fire, Orange County, Undercover Brother

2001 - Mummy Returns, Royal Tenenbaums, 13 Ghosts, Evolution, Jeepers Creepers

2000 - Whole 9 Yards, Pitch Black, Battlefield Earth

1999 - Blair Witch Project, Galaxy Quest, End Of Days, 13th Warrior, Mystery Men

1998 - 6 Days, 7 Nights, Lost In Space

1997 - Liar, Liar, Good Will Hunting, Fifth Element, Devil's Advocate, Spawn, Bean

Jason Bovberg 07-28-04 01:40 PM

Damn, man, you've got some movies on that list that I would consider among the best for their given year: "A Mighty Wind," "Blade 2," "Royal Tenenbaums," "Pitch Black," "Blair Witch"...

Groucho 07-28-04 01:47 PM

Odd that Whole 9 Yards made the list, but not Whole 10 Yards.

fumanstan 07-28-04 01:50 PM

I like so many movies on your list its ridiculous :(

After the first one, I wasn't about to see the sequel, so I can't really say whether or not it is good or bad. Didn't like the trailer though.

I'm with you.

A lot of those movies are great...can you explain some of these choices?

Which ones? In general, for the comedies, I just didn't think they were funny. For the action, it was probably hokey or silly stories or plot holes. For the rest, I probably was just bored throughout.

Tommy_Harn 07-28-04 02:11 PM

I think "Good Will Hunting" is an exceptional movie. Now, many, even most probably wouldn't call it "exceptional", and I can appreciate that. But I can't imagine anybody calling it one of the worst films of 1997. Hell, I hated "Titanic", thought it was a horriblely acted, over-rated piece of crap. But even I wouldn't rate it among the year's worst.

I can only imagine that you have a problem with Ben Affleck, Matt Damon or Robin Williams.

I like Matt Damon. I'm not much on Robin Williams or Ben Affleck, although I like other movies that they are in, so it's not bias against them. I just didn't like the story.

Listen Helen Keller, if you're gonna get bent out of shape on simple mistakes like leaving off a letter, you might not want to hang out on any message boards. His message was easy to read.

Actually genius, it wasn't so easy to understand. It was easy to read, but not so easy to understand. He could be saying:

1. These types of lists are silly

2. The actual movies I have chosen are indeed silly (he agrees with me)

3. It is silly to put these actual movies on a worst-of list (he doesn't agree with me)

BTW, thanks for telling me how I should respond to a message in a topic I created. If you get bent out of shape by how people respond to others' messages, YOU might not want to hang out on any message boards.

What movies did you see and LIKE, I'm curious to know? Seems like you're watching a lot of Blockbuster type movies and then condemning them for being popular as is so common these days.

You are wrong. Most of the movies I like are popular. Off the top of my head, here are some of my favorites:

2004 - Shrek 2, Spiderman 2, Butterfly Effect, The Terminal, Man On Fire

2003 - LOTR, X2, Pirates Of The Caribbean, Kill Bill, Identity, Final Destination 2

2002 - LOTR, The Ring, Bourne Identity,

2001 - LOTR, MOnster's INc., Ocean's 11, The Others

2000 - Meet The Parents, Rules Of Engagement, Frequency, O Brother Where Art Thou

1999 - Sixth Sense, Being JOhn Malkovich

1998 - Saving Private Ryan, The Negotiator

1997 - Con Air, LA Confidential, Starship Troopers

Well, I mean there's a difference between "worst" movie and movie I didn't like.

I didn't care for Good Will Hunting either. the story didn't really affect me, thought the characters weren't too interested. But I wouldn't ever go so far as to call it a BAD movie. I mean, it's not. Not in a year when something like Batman and Robin existed.

It's is all in your own definition. I go to movies strictly to be entertained, so if I am not entertained, I consider it a bad movie, regardless of the technical prowess, acting, etc. Lost In Translation is a great example. I can appreciate the accolades it is getting, but I was bored as hell, so to me it is a bad movie.

cultshock 07-28-04 04:20 PM

Let's face it, "worst" is very subjective. Everyone has different tastes, and no one is going to agree with 100% of the OP's list. While I agree that quite a few of the films on his list were definitely not to my liking, I did enjoy HELLBOY, PAYCHECK and FIFTH ELEMENT, for example. They kept me entertained, and sometimes, that's all you can ask for.

Wow. Your list of movies you like and movies you hate seem like the exact same kind of movies to me. I mean, literally, if you didn't tell me which list was which I would have no clue. Weird.

RyoHazuki 07-28-04 04:43 PM

 for Con Air, for Royal Tennenbaums? Pass it over here, I wanna take a hit.

PopcornTreeCt 07-28-04 04:56 PM

The Royal Tenenbaums?
