From now one you are public enemy no. 1. (no fault of Pierce though)

pssst.... Jeremy Norhtham

second preference: Clive... :D

harosa 07-28-04 09:03 AM

Id love Clive in the role but if they scaled back the ridiculousness of the latter movies, Clive would seem better suited to the feel of the Dalton roles and I think the producers dont want that.

Inverse 07-28-04 09:11 AM

"Bond should be laid to rest. This is the era of blockbusters, and comic book adaptations. Perhaps U.S. audiences have problems in letting go, but he's *this* close to being abandoned in Europe, media hype notwithstanding."

This is nonsense from the financial point of view. Bond still makes money hand over fist. Die Another Day made $431 million worldwide--and most of it (63%) was made *outside* of North America. Die Another Day was the #5 movie overall of 2002 in the UK, and was #1 for three weeks in Germany, only being knocked out of the top spot by The Two Towers.

Bond pretty much invented the action blockbuster, and is in essence a comic book character. So why ditch him in an era of comic book blockbusters? He's the most valuable thing in the movie business: an established franchise.

You can argue that the Bond movies are getting stale--and I'd agree! But it's just flat-out wrong to think they're no longer popular.

custom001 07-28-04 09:11 AM

I think it's a shame, Brosnan was a great Bond IMO.

Bring back Connery! :D

rexinnih 07-28-04 09:18 AM

I highly enjoyed Pierce as Bond (second behind Connery of course) and was hoping he would be back for one more.
Now who to root for next.....................

Red Dog 07-28-04 09:26 AM

I'd rather have Timothy Dalton come back than any of those actors mentioned.

Repost from the other Bond thread - New possibilities?

Ben Miles. Charming, built, with excellent timing.

http://www.kingkong.demon.co.uk/efox/round.jpg

Filmography, you ask? Why, click away!

James Purefoy. Hey, my sister thinks he's sexy, and she likes Connery, and liked Brosnan back in the day. If that's not a good judge of Bond, what is?

http://www.ar.com.au/~jriddler/ba/ba-jamesp.jpg

Egad! Pray, in what films has he featured?

Stuart Townsend. Give him a couple years - he'll grow into it. As for those quick to point out that he was in Queen Of The Damned... remember Brosnan was in The Lawnmower Man. Wretched horror book adaptations = Bond Gold!

http://www.papermag.com/paperdaily/p...ges/stuart.jpg

Fwooargh! Show me more of this man... 's films.

Dougray Scott, my friends, Mr. Dougray Scott.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/media/images/3...ayscott300.jpg

Heavens to Hibernian-jersey-earing Betsy! Gimme more.

Nick Moran. The classy lad in front there has shown that he's a man with a way with words and weaponry.

http://www.cornerhouse.tv/newsimage/Nick%20Moran.jpg

So young that I must know more.

Ben Chaplin would do in a pinch.

http://images.google.com/images?q=tb...10ck/bcsun.jpg

Alright, but show me what he's ever done, I'm already confusing him with Nick Moran

Michael Sheen. Already has a name that sounds like a Bond knockoff, AND has proven that he can land beautiful women on charm and with alone. 'Cause it's certainly not the looks.

http://www.allstarz.org/kate/sheen.jpg

Um...

Karl Urban. He's got it down if he figures out his hair ever.

http://cyncity.typepad.com/cyn_city/urban.jpg

You might have seen one of his films before.

Simon Baker. Aussie actor, I'm sure he could pull it off.

http://www.girl.com.au/img/simon_bak...uardian_sm.jpg

More of his stuff

Dominic Purcell. Why not?

I love everything about Hugh Jackman, but I don't think he's right for this particular role.

Gandalf go molest a hobbit.... :p

You gotta love the way so many on the internet want the Bond series to die a gruesome death, as if this franchise is somehow the biggest travesty since the Police Academy movies. (And somehow failing to notice how each film consistently earns more at the box office than the last one.)

Anyways, hearing Brosnan's Bond is now gone is very disappointing news. I remember watching "Remington Steele" back in the 80s and predicting he would one day play James Bond.

I have a suggestion for this time around, but I've never heard anyone else mention it so I doubt it will ever happen -
Alexis Denisof (Wesley from "Angel").

El-Kabong 07-28-04 10:36 AM

Oh lord - NOT Hugh Jackman. Lets get someone who doesnt suck, please.

The one I think would be pretty good is, suprisingly, Sam Neil. The screen tests on the Living Daylights DVD had him looking pretty smooth in a tux.

BDB 07-28-04 11:01 AM

I initially thought when Clive hit the streets he was the man, but having see his very wooden performance in King Arthur I doubt he has the charisma to carry it off.

Bring back timothy dalton.....

Or a long shot here.

Ricky Gervais ;)

This has been my vote since Season 3 of Buffy. And now they could cast Mrs. Denisof as a bond girl.

Unfortunately, I don't think Alexis has the star power they would want to bring in to replace Pierce at this point. Even with his "Pierce Brosnan-y eyes."

Oddly enough, season 3 with Wesley at his wimpiest is what did it for me as well. I kept thinking how he can play macho on Angel so well, and yet also pretend to be bumbling when necessary. He would be perfect for a role like "On Her Majesty's Secret Service," where Bond goes undercover as a very non-threatening, inept guest to Blofeld's secret lair so no one suspects he's some super spy.

cleaver 07-28-04 12:31 PM

Brosnan was definitely the second best Bond, he had a great run. I might get flamed for this, but I'd like to see Jude Law take the reigns. You need a guy who can get away with saying these obscene lines to gorgeous, deadly women, and most of the other guys mentioned would sound as awkward as Dalton, who was the worst.

I'm a huge Buffy/Angel fan, and -- oddly enough -- I've never thought of this...

... you know, this just might work. It's got my vote. (I'm all for his wife being a Bond girl too... man, wouldn't that be great!)

This guy could get away with it:

http://www.kirstenp.claranet.de/movi...adrianpaul.jpg

Adrian Paul

sinister 07-28-04 01:43 PM

adrian paul gets my vote. he's duncan mcleod so he knows action better than anybody else mentioned and when it comes to the ladies, he probably gets more than all these other actors combined. I actually read that he is a choice for the next bond, in parade magazine or something like that.

KnightLerxst 07-28-04 02:09 PM

Man that would be great for Adrian. He would go from C list to A list in a heartbeat.

Well at least we don't have to worry about Orlando Bloom being cast, at least for a while, seeing as he is now the new young James Bond. From the India Times (yea that's right) courtesy of Fark.com, so who knows how reliable it is.

As far as the new, older James Bond is concerned, I think Clive and Jude would be the best choices.

Michael Corvin 07-28-04 03:57 PM

I don't know this Clive guy, but he certainly doesn't look like a bond to me.

AGuyNamedMike 07-28-04 04:24 PM

I'll repeat my Clive pick. I prefer Dougray Scott slightly, but I seem to recall he said "no way". Clive has the looks, the bearing, and some of the dark edginess that Timothy Dalton brought.

BTW, what ever happened to the Colin Salmon buzz?

FuzzyBallz 07-28-04 05:48 PM

Hugh Jackman has range, he can act too? Muahahhaaha, yeah, thanks for the laughs.
