What did you think of Starsky & Hutch the movie?

Came in with low expectations.

A mediocre movie.

Anyone agree or disagree?

asianxcore 07-25-04 03:41 PM

also came into this movie with low expectations. first saw it on a flight back from Europe, I thought it was just a fun movie.

I bought it recently and still enjoy it, sure its not an amazing movie, and I don't think its out to be one. It's good for a bunch of laughs. :)

The show was better. I am sick of Owen Wilson's smartass surfer-dudespeak and lame irony. I'm sick of seeing Ben Stiller's face in every other friggin' movie. The both of them and Vince Vaughn should just go away. At least for several years. The Stiller/Wilson/Vaughn schtick is old. Just go away.

Here's a thought. Howsabout you not watch movies with these guys in the first place? It's like watching a Friday 13th movie and complain about all the killing.

Jackskeleton 07-25-04 03:54 PM

It was a decent movie. nothing to write home about.

wmansir 07-25-04 04:09 PM

mediocre to bad. I'm a bit Owen Wilson fan, I like Vince Vaughn, and Stiller can be good, sometimes, but this one didn't work.

I just watched it a few days ago and only two funny scenes come to mind:
Spoiler:
The biker bar debate about whether the guy could be called 'Big Earl' as an ironic nickname.

And Stiller's "Do it!" undercover persona.

Oh, and when they missed the boat.

Get Me Coffee 07-25-04 06:58 PM

A mediocre movie in my eyes too. It was ok. It wasn't FUNNY, FUNNY more like fun/enjoyable kind of movie.

Tarantino 07-25-04 07:11 PM

I liked it, but I'm a big Owen/Ben/Vince fan. I think they work well together and it was just a good time watching the flick.

Fok 07-25-04 07:51 PM

A let down to the original if you ask me. I don't remember it being a comedy.
As a stand alone, it was funny.

clemente 07-25-04 08:28 PM

I just didn't find myself laughing out loud much when I watched it. The biggest laughs of the movie were kind of given away in the trailers.

MasterofDVD 07-25-04 08:44 PM

I didn't think it was very funny but there were a few scenes that made me feel better about buying it.

I enjoy Owen. I like Ben when he's character is more normal, Along Came Polly, and less "out there", Dodgeball. Vince was great on Old School but I didn't care for his role in this film.

It was an ok movie but one of the worst blind buys I've made in a few months.

Count me in as loving it.

They could've turned it into a campy nightmare. But they chose to make it a lovely homage to the original series, still retaining that Stillerish goofball humor.

Todd Phillips is a talented comedic director.

I agree. I enjoyed it in theaters, but it gets better with each viewing. Its very funny, but it actually has a pretty good story.

bigdogkt2003 07-25-04 10:17 PM

Good movie. I thought Snoop Dog's character was pretty funny.

ArchibaldTuttle 07-25-04 10:22 PM

It was alright, but they should have made a totally different movie about Will Ferrell’s character, and it should have had more Vince in it.

I guess my problem is I don't care for stiller or Wilson that much.

Your Haiku abilities are pretty lackluster.

The Antipodean 07-25-04 10:40 PM

Mediocre. Some funny stuff and too much not so funny stuff. They coasted too much on the idea that just because it's set in the 1970s and you show lots of '70s fashions that somehow makes it rib-ticklingly funny. Meh.

Maxflier 07-25-04 10:52 PM

Wasn't nearly as funny as i expected it to be.

cross 07-25-04 11:01 PM

I wasn't impressed. I barely cracked a smile let alone actually laughed at any parts of the movie.

Just watched it this weekend and agree with that: not a single laugh from me.

rexinnih 07-26-04 09:16 AM

Saw it on a plane. A few laughs. Don't plan on buying the DVD.

John Spartan 07-26-04 09:29 AM

If the car chase was bigger and better, it would help the movie a lot. Instead, it just kind of fizzles out and seems about half as good as it could've been.

The same can be said for the comedy scenes as well. The coked out dance off, the use of the "do it" guy, the dragon scene, etc. For some reason, they all gave off the impression that just a little more and they could've been much funnier.

Ginwen 07-26-04 09:40 AM

Just saw it last week. I had low expectations, and it didn't meet them. I didn't see one thing I liked, or found funny, in the whole movie.

dick_grayson 07-26-04 09:53 AM

I thought it was pretty weak, too. The Will Ferrell scenes weren't very funny and the Stiller/Wilson pairings are getting old.

Geofferson 07-26-04 10:36 AM

I thought it was a pretty good movie. Captured the spirit of the TV show rather well.
