I finally got my first job on a movie!

Don't know if any of you will care, or remember me at all... I haven't posted regularly for ages. Well, whatever, I'm so excited that I gotta feel like jumping up and down and shouting it at the top of my lungs. I've been trying for a LONG time to break in to post-production (10 or 15 years from now I'd like to be getting head credits as an editor.)

So anyway, I'm gonna be the editorial intern for the Strangers With Candy feature film. It is shooting in the NYC area right now... may move to LA for post (in which case they'll find someone else out there.) This looks like it is only a 5 week thing for me, but I am also talking to someone about being the post-production editorial intern on Everything Is Illuminated when that moves to NYC for post (it is shooting in Europe now.) So the timing could be perfect.

If things work out, after a couple of these internships I ought to be able to "pitch" myself as an editorial apprentice. My girlfriend is an Avid Assistant, so she's several years ahead of me and has been the big source of contacts for me so far.

So I just want to say, if any of you are hoping to one day break in (I know some of you are,) it DOES happen if you persist.

Are you going to be enrolling in the AVID Bootcamps? You should if you're going to go that route. My editing internship ended up not even touching the AVID because my mentor was afraid of the damn_thing. I did however learn to cut film on a bench. Which, while is cool, didn't do squat to help me get ahead.

I'm hoping to do storyboards for films some day. I did half of my friend's script (which has since been rewritten a gazillion times) but that's about it.

That's still a pretty good experience. People who have done that come better prepared to a non-linear editing system. I've had to train a bunch of people, and it seemed to me that people who hadn't cut on actual film before took a longer time to understand arranging tracks properly, losing sync, B-roll lengths ect.

Good luck FCD, if you meet Amy Sedaris tell her I think she's cute.

My advice, take advantage of Avid's student price for the editing software. Abuse the hell out of it and just about live in the post house through your internship. Spend every possible second you can there so you can network around.

I'm surprised your post isn't longer. I suppose after looking into editing, you started editing down the size of your post.

Ethan man,

haven't seen you around here in a LONG time, then again I haven't been around much either.

Congrad on the job! I only hope to have that much luck when I get out of college. In fact that's nearly the same thing I'm going to college for in the fall. And since I'll be moving to the L.A. area, Javier (jack) himself is hopefully gonna help me get an internship of some sort later in the year (right? RIGHT). Let us know how the job goes, and please keep in touch, I was wondering where you've been so it's good to see you haven't left the boards all together. IM me at requieminadream1 and lemme know how things are going.

Once again congrads!

Correction, some of us were. Well, I can only speak for myself, but my direction has changed.

Good for you though. Beats the hell out of running errands for the local jewelry thief.

Hey, thanks for all the good words, guys. I appreciate it. Tomorrow is my first day, so I'm pretty damn_stoked.

The editing suite isn't in a post house, so there's really nobody to schmooze with. Also I have to hold down a regular paying job while I do this thing, so there won't be much time to mess around. I still plan on milking it for all it is worth.

Congrats!

Out of curiousity, have you been doing some freelance editing to make ends meet until you nabbed this job?
