Wed Jun 23, 8:15 PM ET

Scott Hettrick, STAFF

"The Shawshank Redemption" will get a limited theatrical rerelease in eight cities for two weeks this fall in celebration of the film's 10th anniversary and to promote Warner Home Video's two-disc special DVD edition debuting on October 5.

The two-week theatrical run of "Shawshank" will begin Sept. 24 in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Boston, Philadelphia, Seattle and Austin.

Darabont said the DVD will include a new audio and video transfer of the film and two documentaries running a collective 90 minutes.

A limited edition box set ($44.99) will also include film historian Mark Kermode's book about the movie's production and popularity and the soundtrack CD of Thomas Newman's score.

I never did get a chance to see this in theaters. I'm glad I'll be able to as it is one of my favortie movies.

I'll wait for the DVD release, should be excellent. I think a lot of people have been waiting a long time for this one!

5th largest city in the US and we still don't get jack.

Geofferson 06-25-04 03:12 PM

Not showing in my area either. Oh well, the new DVD will have to do. :)

Daytripper 06-25-04 08:14 PM

Well F me! And the other major cities it seems. What a crock.

No Washington D.C.!????

lisadoris 06-25-04 08:17 PM

Guess I'll be driving back to Chicago sometime during that run (woo hoo).

Yeah, we get majorly F'ed on alot of stuff. Like for instance, when they advertise those free passes to sneak peaks of movies, we never get those in Phoenix. Places like Seattle get them. WTF?

RyoHazuki 06-26-04 03:11 PM

Because Seattle is so much hipper than us.

Mano 06-26-04 03:24 PM

Its been ten years!? Shit man where has the time gone?

Pants 06-26-04 06:07 PM

Wow, eight screens. That's almost as many screens as the film played on in 1994

I hardly ever get to do something cool like this!

Those that didn't get it, don't fret. If they are making new prints, I think they'll make the rounds a bit and you'll get this 2nd run.

For Chicago fans, it appears as if Shawshank will join THX and Donnie Darko as an exclusive engagement at the AMC 21 River East theater. That's September 24, by the way. The ad in the paper also said it will run for two weeks. Just thought I'd give the heads up.

lisadoris 09-19-04 10:54 AM

Only two weeks crap! Of course I'll be in Chicago the week after these are gone. Ain't it always the way.

drjay 09-19-04 08:23 PM

No ATL love? Maybe I'll be around Chicago then, maybe I'll go, it is indeed a great movie.
