Favorite Ending to a Movie Thread!

I love the way some movies abruptly end and go straight into the credits instead of a flowing motion. The best has got to be the "Star Wars" movies. All of them, how they end with the great finales, the soft music plays and then "Directed by George Lucas" (other than 5 & 6 of course) zaps on with the traditional John Williams theme music.

I also love the way it's done for "Stargate". Similar effect.

But, I am not just talking about those kind of endings, but any endings to movies that you thought were so cool and just stayed with you long, long after the movie was over.

Please share...

This is a stupid pet peeve, I know, but it drives me crazy in this place. Change the name of the thread to "favorite", it's impossible to quatify what would be the "best" ending ever.

To stay on topic. The Great Silence has probably my all-time favorite ending. It just buckles the entire genre.

I completely agree with City Lights and The Third Man.

And I'll add Blood Simple.

One Night in Paris?

While I'm not saying the movie is cinematic genius or anything, I think the ending to Before Sunrise was great. It would have been SO easy to give it a cheerful ending, but Linklater stuck to his guns and ended it like it would happen in real life.

I'm sure there are dozens of others out there I love, but when I read the thread title this is the first that came to mind.

I deifinitely agree. The same goes for Lost in Translation. I had a sense of fulfillment after watching those.

Might as well add... The most shocking ending for me had to be Arlington Road. That was definitely my favorite shock ending.

 to the three Spaghetti Western picks!

I'll go with Dead or Alive, however.

Tough call. Gotta agree with The Godfather and The Third Man. I love the ending on Citizen Kane, Casablanca and Yankee Doodle Dandy. But if I had to pick one, I'll pick 2001: A Space Odyssey. The ending gives me both the :whofart: and :jawdrop:

FiveO 06-25-04 02:53 AM

Casablanca has always been one of my favorite endings.

Abranut 06-25-04 03:28 AM

Boogie Nights - When Marky Mark is stroking his enormous rubber schlong.

Oh, I'm sorry. I thought this was the "Most Unecessary Ending to a Movie Thread!"

Shannon Nutt 06-25-04 04:55 AM

Silence of the Lambs has one of my favorite movie endings.

treszoks 06-25-04 07:17 AM

I'll chip in Usual Suspects and Fight Club.
