In agreement here, just saw the trailor and went WTF is this?

I suppose you have to have seen or been a fan of the cartoon. I have never seen it but if they are trying to get new fans I am not sure that trailor will do it...

given the total eye candy the trailer makes the film out ot be, I'm surprised Warner Bros. isn't giving this the IMAX release.

i didn't see Vince Vaughn or Keanu Reeves anywhere...

i'm not all that excited after seeing what appears to be yet another one dimensional film in that trailer...

the guy who's really good at X... but 'they' are holding him back and 'they' are putting them down... but we already know he'll 'win' and show 'them'...

YAWN...

I hope this turns out to be a take on Speed Racer where John Goodman plays Walter Sobchak instead of Speed's dad. I've been thinking this ever since I the part in the trailer where he says "He's just trying to scare you, son," which of course I regard as "He's just trying to scare you dude." As below, you can easily doctor this movie to have him play Walter:

Walter pulls a gun on a cheating rival, yelling "OVER THE LIIIIIIIIINE!!!" and telling him he's entering a world of pain, disqualifying Speed from the climactic race. Regaining the spot is the focus of the last third of the film.

Getting pissed that a qualifying race is on Saturday, 'cause he doesn't roll on Shabbas.

The Jesus competes in a race, and he tells Speed of his sex crimes to deter him away from being intimidated. New line: "I'm gonna take that Mach 5 and I'm gonna accelerate it up your ass till it goes BOOM!" Eight year olds, dude.

The nihilists are Speed's main rival. "Ve vunt zee trofee, Speed Raysah!"

Replace the Pomeranian with the chimp.

Basically, Goodman is Walter, Emile Hirsch is the Dude, and the younger brother is Donny.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'd pay for that movie.

I watched the international ones earlier and dug them a lot. Better then the initial US one.

I tried reporting this thread before for a title change but nothing happened.

I'm truly stunned by the look of this movie. That International Trailer had my head spinning. While not a huge fan of the cartoon I would line up now for the movie if I could.

Every bit of material I've seen from this film makes me think that it's going to be a massive bomb. With such a packed summer, I think this is going to confuse audiences and die a quick death. It also doesn't help that it looks like a long overproduced video game. You'd think the Wachowski's would have learned something from the poor reception of the Matrix sequels.

Some cool pics from EW:

In the magazine, there is another pic of Matthew Fox as Racer X. Serious nostalgia here.

I think the visual style will excite as many people as it alienates, but I think a lot of the performances (Speed, Pops) are going to be wooden. The racing scenes are going to be an absolute blast, but the dialog scenes will bring this to a screeching halt.
