I wonder why he's bitter? I thought GL put him in the lime light. But I agree, Luca$ is turning SW into crap.

He is right Lucas does need to get out more. He probably thinks he is doing a great job on the sequels.

He did. Seems to me Mark has some issues. Lucas gave him the only acting career he has. He cast him as the star, a complete unknown at the time, in 3 of the biggest films of all time. What more can you ask of someone? I'm sorry, what did you want Mark. Did you want the role of Indy. Give me a break. He even results to personal attacks. Sort of funny that he participated in the DVD documentary, then slams him afterwards. Sort of cowardly. If Hamill was so certain that Lucas needed to be criticized at times, then why didn't he say this to Lucas' face. Sure Lucas is surrounded by too many yes men. But you basically did the same thing by gladly participating in the DVD doc, then run off like a coward and slam Lucas behind his back.

Oh well. What I knew of Mark Hamill, I liked. I say that in the past tense. Seems he's jealous of Harrison Ford. Maybe he should take that up with him rather than Ford.

I've seen pictures of Lucas at the VES Awards, Oscar parties, on vacations every year with Spielberg and Coppola, and even at Disney World with his kids. I think Lucas gets out plenty. Hamill's just whining because he didn't follow in Ford's footsteps. Neither did Fisher, but you don't see her blaming Lucas for her failure either.

That's pretty candid. There is some severe bitterness in there along with some very valid points. The biggest downfall of what Lucas has done is that he is not willing to look outside for any constructive criticism or even outside talent.

However, how can he say in one breath that George was not the type of guy to attach himself to somebody else, and then turn around and be resentful of Harrison Ford?

Hanging around a bunch of people who will never tell you the truth about the errors you are making is not really getting out more.

Hamil meant(IMO) he needs to really hear what his fans are saying and take a moment to listen to them.

Of course we can all look at the dvd release of SW to realize that will never happen.

I wish he would do what Spielberg did with ET and give us a surprise by including the original versions of the first Trilogy in the set as a hidden feature.

Hamill brought this on himself too. For years he's been milking the Skywalker thing dry, while simultaneously saying that he doesn't want to be associated with that role. Example: his appearance on "The Simpsons."

That article looks like it was from the late 80's. I thought Hamill had come around? I too remember Hamill saying he was on the DVD documentary, why would this come out now?

And also, the whole tone of that article reeks of yellow journalism. I'm not saying it's an outright lie, but it probably is.

The only valid point that he had was with Lucas being surrounded by too many yes men. I believe that's true.

I take that to mean you wish Lucas would let someone else direct. This is Lucas' baby. He created it. Why should he tell someone else to just take control of my work and do with it what you want? What if you created something, and I told you to let someone else do it? You wouldn't like that and I wouldn't expect you to. It's your work.

He does need a new screenwriter, and from all reports he let Tom Stoppard make a run through the Episode III. But Lucas shouldn't let someone else take control of his work unless he wants that.

Yes, that's just what Lucas needs to do, listen to a bunch of self-absorbed fanboys who know nothing about filmmaking. Lucas needs to make the film he wants to make, good or bad.

Hamill needs to bend down and blow Lucas for giving him the only acting career and notariety he's ever had in the first place.

On topic: The article is a total hatchet job. Gosip journalists do this all the time. I'll bet $100 that every interview excerpt from Hamill in that article is taken grossly out of context.

The Extra-Terrestrial, unseen by audiences since the film was first shown in movie theaters. The DVD will be released on Oct. 22.

I guess it was not hidden. However it was not originally going to be included on all the editions and Speilberg or someone decided to respond to fans who wanted it and they included it in all versions of the dvd's.

Maybe they always intended to or maybe they changed their mind.

gcribbs, I wish Lucas would do the same. Lucas isn't going to release the originals. We just have to deal with that fact.

Although, Pants may be right. The interview may be taken completely out of context. You have to wonder why Hamill would gladly participate in the DVD documentary if he truly felt that way about Lucas, especially considering Hamill only has an acting career because of Lucas. Hamill was a complete unknown when Lucas hired him in the first place.

I agree it sounds like Hamil talked for a long time and then someone picked out statements that made a juicy story :)

Although, it must be said that this article completely contradicts what Mark Hamill has said in other interviews. He has said in other interviews that he just couldn't escape the Luke Skywalker character, and that he didn't blame Lucas at all.

This article just doesn't sound like the Mark Hamill that has been in previous interviews. Who knows.

I didn't read the article as Hamill saying that he blamed GL for every career misstep, just that he thought the man was emotionally distant. I agree that Lucas should get out more. What the STAR WARS prequels are missing is the fun and sense of wonder the originals had.

While it may be assumed that Hamill is envious of Ford (there's certainly much to be envious about), he never even mentioned Ford's name in the article, if I recollect. I like Mark Hamill. While he never went on to become a superstar, he's still had a respectable acting career, especially taking his voice work into consideration. I don't think he has anything to be ashamed of.

While I'm willing to bet GL isn't a good friend or a warm man, I don't think that it's his fault that Hamill never became a huge star. I think his car accident put a kibosh on his "leading man" possibilities.

Basically, what I took out of this is that Hamill thinks GL is an as*hole. Since that jibes with everyone else's take on the man with the mammoth neck, I'm apt to believe him.

Well, I was just joking. I should have put a smiley by that. I don't think he needs to do that. But Mark Hamill is successful. If the interview is accurate, which I'm not sure about, there's no need to be bitter. He's been very successful in comics, voice-overs, and other avenues.

Seems silly for him to burn bridges like that. Lucas will probably make other films, and you never know. That interview is just very un-Hamill like.

Who is everyone else? I hope you don't mean fanboys on the internet, as they don't have a clue what Lucas is like. I've never heard anyone in the film business that knows Lucas, make such claims. Not even John Milius, who seems like the most cantankerous person in Hollywood, has made such claims about Lucas. In the documentaries on the DVDs, he seems like a nice, easy going man. He certainly seems easy to work with.

After re-reading the interview, it's seems heavily doctored to make it sound like Hamill went off on Lucas. You're right that Hamill never stated that Lucas ruined his career. But the person who wrote the article stated and I quote.

"And the 52-year-old blames his withering career on Lucas' decision not to cast him in any of his other movies."

But Hamill never stated that. Not only that, the quotes in the article seem strategically placed in a way to make it look like Hamill was quoted, when he wasn't.

Oh come on. From being the star of three of the biggest movies in film history to doing cartoons, and an overrated one at that. Sounds like a sad episode of E! True Hollywood Story. I'm surprised at this point Hammil isn't strung out on crack and a raging alcoholic. But then it's not like this is a case of wrong decisions over his career. The guy has no acting talent, he was NEVER going to make it. That should be obvious to anyone who's seen the Star Wars flicks. I cringe whenever I recall the "I am your Father" scene in Empire. Pauly Shore could've done just as convincing a job here, probably even better. Hammil should thank Lucas for being a knucklehead to hire him in the first place. At least he's guaranteed steady work at conventions where he can sign autographs for virgins dressed up as ugnaughts and wookies for the rest of his life. Let's hope he resists the temptation to one day slice his own wrists with the pen.

No the prequels are not out when you are an impressionable child. Today's culture is different and kids bounce from one fad to another a lot faster than we did.

Perhaps as*hole isn't the right word, but Lucas certainly has a reputation for being cold and unemotional.

Just about every actor who's ever worked with him has said as much, and that's the most likely explanation for all the wooden performances in his films by usually capable actors. Also, the details I've heard of his divorce from his wife supports the "emotionally distant theory".

I would say he seems easy to work with because working for GL entails simply knowing how to say "yes" to his ideas.

You probably don't hear more badmouthing about him because he's one of the most powerful men in Hollywood, and he makes a lot of people a lot of money.

As for Rivero's statements about Hamill... if by only being a relatively successful actor with a million dollar home and a nice family is enough to warrant slitting one's wrists, I hate to think of what that means for folk like us who spend our time discussing these people and their careers on internet message boards for no compensation whatsoever. I guess we should just burn ourselves alive or something since we haven't even accomplished what *gasp* Pauly Shore has.

Hollywood is a cruel mistress.

Some people "make it" and most don't. A lot of it just being in the right place at the right time, getting put in that one big star vehicle that puts you on the map.

Would Julia Roberts have the career and recognition she does without "Pretty Woman?"

She'd probably be that girl from "Mystic Pizza" doing full-frontal nude scenes in direct-to-cable movies. Maybe even a few with her brother.

I agree with Pants. Hamill gives the same answer and same
jokes in all his interviews. I've heard all this before in one of his
interviews. He's joking when he says these things. He jests
with people that ask him why the new movies suck (a baited
question anyway) and then he jokes a bit and then defends
Lucas and the prequels.

Relax and look at the source. Hamill by no means hates Lucas
and Hamill has done fine in his career. Yea, he hasn't been a
Harrison Ford, but very few have. He's done a lot of stuff behind
the scenes and a lot of voice work. I've never heard him distance
himself from his Skywalker role.
